Man, I really don't think I'm that intelligent. I'd honestly rate myself bottom 20% of intelligence amongst co-workers. How have I managed to get promoted early with top ratings??

People who think they’re smart fall behind because they miss opportunities to learn new things, real intelligence is knowing that there’s always more to learn

likesmart

I normally wouldn't say this, but 🎏 bowl is anonymous, so what the hell, my IQ is super high, I have always been an overachiever, but at some point it starts to matter less and less... it's all about being at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons, and you know, working your ass off. I have definitely been lapped by less intelligent people who outworked me.

Why would she/he call you by the name of your school? Weird

EY1 - so much to learn. It overwhelms me.

Can relate here, I think my intelligence is average at best. I do think I have a very good work ethnic, partly to make up for the lack of superior intelligence

Well, look at the president of the US. You can be in the last 20% an still be successful.

It is not high intelligence but average intelligence coupled with lot of Grit will get you move up in many places.

Going the other way here- I’m smart, hard working, went to good schools and feel like there’s a huge bias & I don’t get role b/c people are intimidated.

like

Yeah the other thing is the first few promotions are based on effort. Making it to D is based on potential and P is based on $$$

like

P3- not the case at all, but thanks. The Partner that I work for literally calls me by the name of the school I went to. I’ve worked very hard for everything I have achieved, including paying my own way. Just saying, it goes both ways & OP should be thankful for the luck.

like

D7 good point (as sad as it is). A3 I'd say that probably has a lot to do with it.. I am very likable, hard working, and have a great attitude, but I can't help but envy those who do well naturally with seemingly little effort.

Humility shows and is appreciated by partners and clients. I too am not the fastest mind in the room but still rock projects regularly

It can be a curse to be too smart. Things come way too easy and one never builds a sense of hard work, perseverance, and failure. Those three things are as important IMO

like

Definitely no incriminating pictures 🙄

Op same here, somehow things happenned, right place right time, but I don’t think I am smarter than others. I dint even get MBA admit !!!

Today’s average is tomorrow’s superstar...

You might not have high IQ, but high EQ is very valuable. Networking is everything. I bet everybody loves you and you’ve helped everybody in some capacity. Either that or you are gritty and ask for what you want and do decent research to back up your claims

Do you work harder than they do? I assume you do and effort pays off. When it doesn’t come easy but it comes when you work hard you know your strength

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Interesting. Let’s see if the uptick In cases continues to drive an uptick in hospitalizations and then in fatalities. Depends on how many of the cases are incidental or in very young people not prone to severe cases. But either way, look at the hospital capacity utilization figures! This is the untold story. Were we bending the curve to avoid unnecessary deaths due to overcrowded hospitals, or were we bending the curve to buy time for treatments and vaccine, or just to slow fatalities?
