I’m currently at a studio that has been good to me. They took a chance and allowed me to change career paths. They gave me numerous opportunities that lead me to now, being the head of a department. The big guys at the top has expressed they could see me as the guy to run the company one day but it’s all talk and possibilities right now. I’ll have to wait for now. On the other hand, I have an offer in hand from a much bigger company to be part of their business development. Any advice?

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I am an associate at a UMM and my employment contract has a 4 month non compete (yes, even for associates) but I am thinking of lateraling. What are the implications of breaking a non compete? I didn’t say anything when I signed because I was desperate for a PE offer but it seems so unfair as I am just a lowly associate. I am not so much worried about getting sued, but about my current employer tanking my reputation if I leave and break the non compete.
