Uhhh. I ran 3 cases total before my first interview.
I would stand naked in front of the mirror screaming you can do it! While slapping my face
If you're preparing this much for an interview, it's probably not the right fit.
I really didn't spend much time at all. Just watched some YouTube videos
@DD1 most people at MBB did a lot of prep work for their interview; it's a sign that it's a good fit if anything
I did not do the look over my shoulders. I think case in point is a good place to start to get your footing (what is a case, how is a case run, etc.), but then found victor Cheng more helpful with tactics while doing a case. I recall watching a couple videos of his on YouTube (I think), then reading a few of his frameworks on his website. The resources can be helpful, but frankly 90%+ of what will dictate your success is your preparation and practice. There is no resource that will be a "silver bullet" in the process.
^BCG1, damn really? That's awesome, how much time did you spend learning the basic casing mindset/frameworks then? Hours per week?
@deloitte digital, I haven't started practicing casing yet? It was just a question to see if I have enough time if I wanted to recruit in fall
Do atleast 678 casea
^BCG1 what school did you recruit out of undergrad from? How many people in your intern class from your school? Thanks in advance.
I prepared for about a month in advance. I generally did perhaps 5 cases a week and gave another 5, usually with friends / classmates. I ended up interviewing with 5-10 firms, so I would say I also got substantial additional "practice" via the live interviews.
@McKinsey 2, in that month period what frameworks/material did you use initially to get a understanding? Victor Cheng's 4 basic frameworks or Case in point? Seems to be the two most popular ones but both conflicting ways to go about it. McK 2 feel free to chime in ✌🏼️
I mostly adapted Victor Cheng's frameworks into something that worked for me. Case in Point was a good "intro", but I don't recall applying in any conscious way to how I prepared.
^McK 2 thanks that's helpful, would you recommend I start with Victor Cheng then? I know there's no right answer for everyone but I trust your judgement. Also, did you do Victors look over my shoulders? The series that cost money
LOMS is great. Do not use Case in Point's frameworks; only use it to get introduced to case interviews; Victor Cheng is all you need
Thanks a ton McK 2 & 3, when you two say use case in point to get introduced, how much of the reading does that entail? Everything except the frameworks part of the book I'm assuming? What about the examples in there? Thanks in advance.
I don't really remember, just avoid the frameworks. Read as much as you like to get familiarity with case interviews
Thank you!
