You lit
Congratulations on securing all these offers. Well done! I would advise to choose based on the people you meet and who you clicked with the most. In the end it’s a People business and if you don‘t like the culture / your colleagues, any other considerations won’t really overcompensate that. Happy to chat if you want to send me a DM. I’m a Partner in Chicago.
FWIW OP, I would choose McK over BCG if I had to do it again. Echo a lot of what’s been said here by other BCGers at the firm. For better or worse, there’s really one type of person who succeeds here and if you aren’t that type then it’s a only matter of how long until you leave.
I also think McK is also way better at alum relations than we are which is key to finding your opportunity after consulting. Of course, they’re not Bain, but still first class.
Mck. I’m a tad bias.
Accenture.
BCG16 sounds like he/she drank too much kool aid
How did you do it?
Bain >> McK > BCG. I left consulting (big D) years ago, went to B-school, got industry job, and am now in a position to hire ex-consultants (all this is to say that I’m not biased between MBB) and I have to say, I’ve been nothing but positively impressed by ex-Bain folks. Smart, hard-working and down-to-earth. McK tend to be smart and Uber-productive but somewhat struggle to integrate into teams well. BCG has been a mixed bag
It is possible that you have this experience because fewer people voluntarily leave BCG so you only see the ones who weren’t performing as highly as the others. I’m not saying that’s the case… I’m not sure anyone could produce data to show that or that people would ever share it. I’m just saying it is an alternate explanation. One that would suggest BCG is the best place to work 😊
Personally I’ve been very happy here and impressed by the caliber of my colleagues and the work they can produce (speaking as someone who went to an Ivy League school and worked with many high-performing people in other roles before landing in consulting.) but I’ve also been impressed by the people I know who work at Bain and occasionally, also McKinsey, so I think it will be hard to say one of them is better based on performance of individuals.
Congrats!! With or without MBA?
Which office(s)?
Bain's new managing partner is in SF!
If you look at the numbers, BCG and Bain trails behind McKinsey in terms of size and most capability.
Honestly who cares. The exit ops are the same from all 3, there really isn’t a difference so it just comes down to culture and fit
I can only opine on McKinsey and BCG as Bain does not really cover my space (investment management).
It all comes down to people - where do you find the cultural fit and opportunity to grow.
GHCS 1 - you work in corporate strategy for an investment management firm? I find this very interesting. Would you care to explain your role in more detail?
Can you please DM your LinkedIn link? I need to know what it takes to land those jobs! Thanks in advance!
I can’t even get a phone interview with any of them

Just one note - know the decision can be stressful in the moment but just remember you really can’t go wrong. All 3 are large enough that, with a little elbow grease, you will find your people, your work, your culture, etc. So go with what feels right, but don’t stress about buyers remorse - because no matter who you pick, after 6 mos you will look back and say “I am happy with my decision”
None. Get a real life. This is based on my experience with them. But if you are young and you want to explore them, then does not matter. Pick one. Probably McK
Depends on the industry focus you would like to have, Bain is a bit less diverse in that (but really good in PE work).
Do you mind being asked about McK‘s doing (see NYT campaign against the company)?
Other than that: with which interviewers did you connect best?
OP you could start a side hustle consulting people on how to get to MBB. You'll likely be 3 times as qualified as most folks out there
Hi OP, which firm did you go with in the end? Starting at BCG in March out of undergrad.
OP, I saw you mentioned international mobility. I’ve just done an international office transfer. Happy to discuss what it’s like at McKinsey, in case helpful.
Gotcha. You’re welcome.
Happy to take whichever offer you pass on
Look at work culture of the specific offices as well—Bain tends to have a consistent culture across the board, with SF being known for having a “chiller” culture as well!
Was fortunate enough to be in a similar situation and ended up picking McK - happy to chat further
Go to McK
I think it really comes down to personal reasons when deciding. The differences are marginal enough that making broad statements doesn’t make sense.
i.e. if you want to do public policy, your best option is McKinsey. If you want to do PE work, your best option is Bain. etc etc.
