Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

Take this with a grain of salt because Im a 6’2 black guy so results may vary, but I feel safe. I also don’t go to Crown Heights, Staten Island, or the Bronx.
I think the crime is overblown, but I recently moved. I’ll put it like this, after coming back home to the DC area, NY is light years ahead of DC when it comes to safety.
Media doesn’t make money on feel good stories, they get their clicks and ad-rev from “Person thrown into tracks on the Uptown A train”
NY has also faced extreme gentrification, because even apartments in Harlem are going for 3000 for a 1 bd. . . so it’s forcing a lot of people who wouldn’t have considered neighborhoods like Harlem to move uptown or further out - hence why there is now a Whole Foods in Harlem.
See if you can claim to be an illegal migrant, in which case mayor Adam has plaza hotel with three times catered meals reserved for you
Honestly as someone who’s never complained about the crime here, I can also say I’ve been physically attacked twice in the last year and a half - mind you during the day. Never had an issue before Covid. Post Covid it’s obvious the city is doing less and less to help the community, homeless, etc. I think the news is full of crime stories which makes it seem like you’ll be in danger every second you leave the house which isn’t true, but it’s also not super safe either. If you really want to move to NYC do your research - be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Take note of how neighborhoods have changed. That’s the best advice I can give.
Midtown Manhattan 🥲
I moved back recently after leaving during covid and it’s fine. Pretty much like it was in 2019. I live in crown heights and don’t have any issues.
I have felt very safe where I live, granted it is right below upper east side in a generally nice area. You’ll still find the crazies on public transit and basically lots of places you go. As for crime i can say I haven’t seen a ton, but the crime i have seen tends to be in lower manhattan, bronx, harem, brooklyn area.
I will say NYC will seem a good bit different than before you were there (covid), they are dumping people from the border in, and no that’s not just news I have seen a drastic increase. That being said it doesn’t really impact your life that much besides more ppl, prices have also gotten drastically crazy there, so just prep yourself to pay more for basically everything you did before.
Lots of my friends and myself use the citizen app, just so we are aware of any crime around us etc so we know if we should stay inside etc, however if you’re someone who easily stresses about a mugging on the other side of the city then i would not download it haha
It’s the same as pre Covid - you’re in a city, always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings
It’s totally fine lol. Just be vigilant of your surroundings.
I agree with Con 1, news has a way of making any major city unsafe. Parts of NYC are fantastic. I moved out because I got married, have kids and needed the space and flexibility that only the burbs IMO can provide. I wouldn’t move back though but that’s because I have to think about family other than just myself. But if it’s just you then do what’s best for your situation.
Agree with the above^ with everything going on I would really really think about moving to nyc. It’s not the same place it once was, those stories about rising crime rates etc are true, although yes a lot of reporting nowadays is for clicks, it’s true. In addition to that, they are dumping illegal immigrants into the state, and not only that they’re giving them free housing and money, while ignoring their own homeless population, which then angers that group and rightly so. Those same immigrants are realizing there aren’t many consequences for their actions as well, which paints the lovely scene of them being able to do as they please. Basically, it feels like a kettle waiting to blow here, and I can only imagine that is coming sometime soon here in 2024 with everything going on. So please just really really consider the move, take it from someone looking to move out of the city right now
I never feel safe in NYC even when I middle of financial district. The homeless and addict makes me very uncomfortable
