Key question, what kind of MPH and was it full time or executive or part time. I am looking to hire someone with MPH and solid health systems understanding, but have been badly burnt before with hiring someone with bioethics background (also from Emory) and patient advocacy experience. I am in big pharma, so shoot me a DM if you have MPH in health policy/epidemiology and willing to share what kind of access experience you have. Sorry, if this sounds blunt or rude. Don't want to waste anyone or my time in hiring another person not fit for the role
Wow.. bioethics/pt advoc <> market access.. ever.
I think your MPH has the most value in pharma with HEOR. Market access will be a stretch for any MPH.. that is usually driven by work experience. You can try to jump into managed care and learn the business from that perspective first, like payer or pbm.. then jump to pharma market access.. but that's a long game strategy.
If you are trying to get into pharma heor, a referral is a must in most cases because you don't have prior heor experience. That said, you can stand out from the crowds by doing your homework. Learn what the purpose is for heor, which departments do they work with, familiarity with external data vendors (iqvia, komodo, symphony, etc), and if you have experience managing vendors then that's good to have. If you can't find the answers in Google then use your network to talk with someone in the business. Good luck!
