You may suffer for few nights, I’d ween off on the weekends but in the long term will get used to sleeping without it
Pshh…my 7 yr old still sucks their thumb when very tired. They’ll grow out of it. If the Dr/Dentist isn’t concerned then you’ll be fine.
We had our kids put their paci in the mailbox “so the mailman could take it to a new baby who needed one.”
I laughed when my wife suggested the idea but it worked shockingly well. They both asked for it a few times but a few reminders that the mailman took it to a new baby did the trick.
Probably a few long nights as they get into a new routine.
We did the same thing and it worked great (also around 18 Mo)
At 18 months my kid is on pacifier day and night, he loves it, we are trying not to get too worried. Hopefully it will ween off eventually
I don’t understand. Who has set these timelines and should we make a child go through it? They’re just 14 months. They’re a child, they’re pacifying themselves. Probably cause they can’t tell you why. And you’re going to take that away because someone said it is too long to use a pacifier???
Guidance for us from the Peds doc was 3 years old to get rid of the pacifier. We have a 16 month old and are in no rush at all.
Make it an event. We had ours throw it in the trash, made it a big event with a reward.
I feel like they would do it then expect it at bedtime. How old was yours?
My 18 month old still uses
Finally got my 2 y/o off the paci when she went cold turkey on vacation. The change of scenery distracted her and she forgot about it after a week.
My daughter had a habit of chewing through the nipple part and we’d have to replace it every month or so. At 18 months, we just didn’t replace it and it was so uncomfortable to suck on she just ditched it.
2.5 years old daughter here, still using pacifier. We will wean off in ~6 months or if dentist says anything when we get a check up next week.
Same age as yours, but dentist has been complaining about her pacifier usage since 1st checkup at 1 yo. We can tell how much it helps calm her down when she gets big toddler emotions so no plans to force her off it.
