apply for other jobs unless you enjoy working there for that pay.
Second D1. Blaming HR is a deflection. HR works for the business, not the other way round.
Precisely! HR doesn’t run the business. We are here to help the business do what it wants/needs to do while mitigating risk to the business.
Your boss is full of it. Hiring managers have more control over pay than they’d like you to know. Start looking and get out when you find a good opportunity.
Stop believing BS. It's time to go and get paid what you are worth.
I bought a house recently and my boss literally said “we don’t even pay you that much. How did YOU afford such a home?”
She went on to say, “had you bought an apartment I would have understood….”
I’m currently looking for a new job, she hasn’t been nice to me since!
Your boss can actually asked for a salary evaluation and that they increase it accordingly. You give him/her your most recent complete, thorough resume and they submit it to HR for evaluation, asking for an increase and provide the reasons why. Be it you're a valued employee, the work doesn't fit the salary, whatever ... They can do as they choose. There's no such thing as them having to settle for "what was given". Bonuses go around when they are able to "save" on paying an adequate salary.
Not if you work for big network companies. Decisions are made above the heads of the of the individual agencies. I know for a fact my agency president has fought tooth and nail for me for 2+ years, and I bring in more organic business than anyone else. Zero F—-s given at network finance/hr level that sign off on things
Doesn’t matter how much you’re worth, it’s how big of a flight risk you are vs how much business they stand to lose if they lose you. That’s how things are being measured now.
Every few years, my wife’s boss gives her generous raises until she maxes out her pay band. The company only moves the bands about every four years, so for two years she gets no increase, then they adjust the bands, she gets a big bump, and the cycle repeats.
The funny part is… in those “no-raise” years, she actually pushes her team harder… and everyone ends up making more. One of her sales guys even told me it’s weird, his sales climb about 10% a year for a while, then suddenly drop to 4–5%, but doesn’t receive any additional coaching, push or pressure…
I know exactly why… but I’m leaving that alone… 🤔
Actions speak louder than words. Can’t pay those bills with empathy. Start looking.
Your boss is lying. A good boss who actually believed that you were worth more would convince someone in leadership that you are worth more. The boss is telling you what you want to hear. Might want to job hunt to see if you are below market.
I’d say most of us are in that situation these days. The salary offers across the board are decreasing despite purchasing power of the dollar spiraling the drain for the last two decades
That’s just shifting the blame and 100% means you can make more elsewhere. Apply and see if you can get an offer then leverage that with the company. See what you’re worth.
I was in that position and got a new job that paid me what I was worth.
Go speak to HR
Me personally I don't buy it. The only way you can get a decent raise is to job jump and NOT share what you were earning at any past job as that is none of their business. Just smile, pretend you are really stupid, and on your free time, job search. Make sure you have a good cell phone to interview, etc. Good luck to you.
