Realistically, the UCSF ER is the fastest way to get seen and then referred within UCSF to specialists if he doesn’t already have a primary to refer him.
Thank you everyone for all the help! It means so much to me. This makes me more hopeful that we can get him treated at UCSF. I plan to call financial assistance and see our options tomorrow and what we can do. He has a risk for stroke, so we need to think and act fast. And if it means an ER visit, then that’s what we’ll have to do.
Agreed re: showing up at the ER and asking to get your dad seen. Financial assistance may not be able to do anything until they have a bill to react to. They can’t pre-approve or discount anything unless/until they are looking at real medical bills (because they don’t know exactly what tests, procedures, etc. your father needs).
How did your dad get this diagnosis? Can that provider refer him or help out?
Got it. It may also be worth checking with your country’s consulate in SF or the area (if they have one) in case they have advice for uninsured nationals in the US.
You gotta really be sure you can get financial assistance. ER bills are very large. It is not a path you want to go down without being completely sure. Go to urgent cares instead. Or try asking for walk in slots at the primary care clinics.
UCSF doesn't accept Medi-Cal. Go to General Hospital @ Zuckerberg Urgent Care clinic or ER depending how bad your dad's health is.
