@infosys - obviously an IAS/any govt. employee will marry a pvt. Girl given she is attractive and afford the dowry. Win win for both . Ladki ko status and security and ladka ko “CEO@housewife” status dalne wali wife.
@infy bro , even when you get to top management position in pvt. you will also work on weekends . Do t worry
#nooffence against housewives but I hate that FB status

I used to go for a morning walk in my hometown and observed few things whenever I crossed by an I.P.S.'s, high court's public attorney and a Principal Director of Audit's government house.
The size of the house is almost equal to the open area around the house.
There are always 5-8 security personel (armed) deployed for their safety.
Two cars (Innova Crysta and Ciaz) along with a local police's safari escort always at the house.
Principal Director of Audit himself own an alto which just bites the dust.
Gardener, house help and a guard.
A driver.
Every year during Diwali, the houses are decorated as if there is some wedding.
These are the things I could notice from the outside and are of great value I believe. It is not easy afford such a massive house by ourselves. If you rent it out, a huge chunk of your salary goes away in just the rent. Then you have the house help, gardener, guard and driver. Two premium cars at your disposal and lots of security forces around. Not factoring in the fuel and maintenance is all free.
This is just one short glimpse of it.
I will tell you something more, I come from a place where Durga Puja is massively big, the crowd at the pandals is unimaginable. But whenever such a person shows up, the entire queue and crowd has to wait till they are done.
I know I earn 5x more than what their salary is, but was I able to compensate for the power with my salary?
It doesn't end there, for public issues, no matter what you earn if you are not in power, the police, local administration don't really take you seriously.
For them a phone call sorts out everything. I have seen this as well, when a road had to be constructed and the whole colony tried and failed.
Yes, people say all the powers come from colonial era and are not there anymore, but believe me, till the time there is hierarchy in the world, the powers would remain as is. Just take an instance of how employees are aware of what their managers might do to them due to the powers vested in them.
In short, yes money is something that is definitely not the driving factor for top tier or any, government job. But almost everything else is.
We should not compare jobs like Rail locomotive driver, peon, sub-inspector etc to IT jobs. Even in IT not every other job pays you dearly, you have to be in good places to get the handsome comparable salary.
All of the above could be the reasons why your father wants you to pursue for government jobs. He has seen it maybe, and definitely wants your good.
Having said that, I do personally wish to get something like that, and I would have no regrets.
You need to see both sides of the coin first before you decide what is heads and what is tails. If you ask people in a forum where 90% of us (or even more) are in IT, you would only get to know more and better about IT. I am not against IT job, I am just telling you the other side of the coin, which unfortunately no other comment has highlighted.
Good luck!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions but many don't even begin to understand the level of problem you will get to face,
Most important point which I am not even going to bullet because this should be a sufficient condition to deter anyone with common sense and basic understand of probability from considering government jobs because of the number of people who compete against you for the posts and the probability that you will get selected!!! It's usually 1:3000 or something in that range gets worser if you are a general candidate, why would you not spend that time to get yourself in a job that not only pays you more but also doesn't have a stiff competition. Just consider the amount of effort require here vs opting for something down below,
becoming a geologist or a botanist or a historian or an audio engineer or becoming one of the million other jobs that are not as saturated as a government job or a software engineering job or a doctor job. The more nonconventional the easier it is to get into.
1. People here predominantly seem to think that government jobs are respected, but don't understand that even grade A officers will need to respect IAS or IPS officers like a gardener does to grade A officers. Heirarchial structure work both ways. Not to mention what will happen if an elected representative decides to pay a visit saying he has promised something to the people and you have to ensure that those impossible promises are fullfiled, do you now how many times MLAs and MLCs have publicly humiliated government servents for not fulfilling promise their own promise? Calling such public servants anti people and turn the entire town against the person giving him sleepless nights?
2. You will deal with different types of people in an open setting unlike in corporate world were everything is at some level client-provider sort of relationship. Exchanges tend to be mellowed you will never encounter harsh disrespect. Worst thing you will be fired. In government jobs I have seen superiors question a persons upbringing, caste, where he eats only human food, if he has a father...you get the point and the gore of what you need to face.
3. You can be thrown in jail. Some positions have so much responsibility that if you mess something up you can be even wrongly indicted and thrown in jail, especially things that involve cash, some commission related jobs, this hardly happens in private companies unless you were accused of sexual harrassment which could also happen in government jobs equally.
4. You will need to have connections to survive, this is not a requirement it's a need, you will not be able to survive some issues like for eg., if you want to serve in your home state but unions keeps asking why you have not be shifted inspite of working in this location for so many years etc.,
5. Your relations will keep bothering you for favours and if it cannot be done you risk sometimes even losing that relationship. Some will hog your precious time.
6. Public complaints - these days people and governments are getting very serious and government are making sure that the public and government officials are working and giving their best. It's no longer like 1990s where you can wail away your time and no one questions. If you are pulled into a complaint then you will need to face the drums sometimes if the problem is huge then expect CBI raids and be ready to lose not just honor but mind and peace as well. Not to mention sting operations by local tv channels.
dad is right upto some extent u will understand when u starts understanding life .
Bhai....sarkari mein jaan hai toh..go for becoming politician...yeh politician log DM/SP ko Ghar kaa kutta samajhte hai...unko respect nahee milega toh...they will ruin your IAS/IPS career. Aur Modi govt...inki power khatam kar di gayee hai...my brother is district level BJP ke neta...he never takes appointment to meet IAS/IPS...aur toh aur...jhaar dete hai DM/SP ko incase they don't work

Thanks for sharing this bro, this will show people the hidden reality of so called IAS/IPS, which are considered as DemiGods by some people.
You tell me, is 30k pension enough? With the current cost of living?
I used to earn 30k in my present org, and I was alone, yet couldn't save much still. You father is in an averse mindset where he doesn't understand the intricate dynamics of wlb, toxic work culture and work to salary ratio.

Baat to sahi khe rhe hai bhai ..govt job mil jaye then go for it
Its your life, people can give suggestions only. Whatever suits you and your conditions accordingly take decision.
It's your life and conditions, no one knows better than you. So sit in Silence and Think!!
Hoping for best!!
What is the use of pension when the salary you get is peanuts. In my opinion good private job is far better than a govt job.
Time has changed. Govt job will give you fixed work and monotonous life.
Unless you get to something like an IAS, it’s not worth it. Also, check again on the pension argument. I doubt pension is there for majority of govt jobs, they just invest in NPS
If you can do hard work and earn white money go for private job. There you can grow exponentially and can earn as much as you deserve but you will have to choose the right skill set and right company.
Try for unicorn startups and product based companies.
Same thing was told to me by one of my relative again and again to go for government job.
I did what I wanted to do, it's your life just what others say.

With all due respect, you're more than old enough to make your own decision. He has to learn to let you live your life and make your own choices. Yes it's true that the private sector is risky in terms of job security, but one also has a higher pay bracket to put aside some money for exactly such an eventuality. On one hand, you can do what you want to do and be happy you made your own decision, or you can try and pick the other side where what-if scenarios and comparisons are quite likely to set in because you were pushed into something.
People joining after 2004 won't be getting any pension.
Try coding in the military vertical...
One of my known passed from IIT BOMBAY is in Airforce, was earlier working with Deloitte SAP operations...
Now at least the air force has provided him great career security ...
But it all depends on the individual whether he/she wants to be part of the same...
Either you are not able to tell about the benefits of a private job.(the money part). And regarding pension. Both government employees and private employees put their money in epfo for pension. You will also get a pension if you want . It is all perspectives.

Atleasy when I started career, govt jobs were not difficult to get but I honestly disliked those jobs. Many govt departments are full of old people, and most of the values are very outdated. Many govt departments are full of corruption, and it's difficult to do a honest job, also many jobs don't teach you anything. Finally for many departments, you will have to serve the politician's interests above the departments interests.
My sister is a government employee, an HOD in a prestigious college. Her starting salary was 10L and she has piece of mind as she doesn't have to work in night shift.. but she got the job when I already had 10 years of experience and they don't get pension anymore. Govt only enrolls them to pension scheme which deducts their own salary to give pension. The govt rules are changing every year and you can't be sure if you get pension after 30 years when you retire.
After 1995 pension system has been stoped dude
Elect congress they are giving old pension scheme.

Obviously, congress doesn't like Hard Work. Bas muftkhori chahiye sabko. Tabhi to 90s tak desh kangaal hone wala tha

Jitna pension se Paisa ayega... Utna IT or private jobs me tum ek saal me nikal loge ...
