@infosys - obviously an IAS/any govt. employee will marry a pvt. Girl given she is attractive and afford the dowry. Win win for both . Ladki ko status and security and ladka ko “CEO@housewife” status dalne wali wife.
@infy bro , even when you get to top management position in pvt. you will also work on weekends . Do t worry

I used to go for a morning walk in my hometown and observed few things whenever I crossed by an I.P.S.'s, high court's public attorney and a Principal Director of Audit's government house.
The size of the house is almost equal to the open area around the house.
There are always 5-8 security personel (armed) deployed for their safety.
Two cars (Innova Crysta and Ciaz) along with a local police's safari escort always at the house.
Principal Director of Audit himself own an alto which just bites the dust.
Gardener, house help and a guard.
A driver.
Every year during Diwali, the houses are decorated as if there is some wedding.
These are the things I could notice from the outside and are of great value I believe. It is not easy afford such a massive house by ourselves. If you rent it out, a huge chunk of your salary goes away in just the rent. Then you have the house help, gardener, guard and driver. Two premium cars at your disposal and lots of security forces around. Not factoring in the fuel and maintenance is all free.
This is just one short glimpse of it.
I will tell you something more, I come from a place where Durga Puja is massively big, the crowd at the pandals is unimaginable. But whenever such a person shows up, the entire queue and crowd has to wait till they are done.
I know I earn 5x more than what their salary is, but was I able to compensate for the power with my salary?
It doesn't end there, for public issues, no matter what you earn if you are not in power, the police, local administration don't really take you seriously.
For them a phone call sorts out everything. I have seen this as well, when a road had to be constructed and the whole colony tried and failed.
Yes, people say all the powers come from colonial era and are not there anymore, but believe me, till the time there is hierarchy in the world, the powers would remain as is. Just take an instance of how employees are aware of what their managers might do to them due to the powers vested in them.
In short, yes money is something that is definitely not the driving factor for top tier or any, government job. But almost everything else is.
We should not compare jobs like Rail locomotive driver, peon, sub-inspector etc to IT jobs. Even in IT not every other job pays you dearly, you have to be in good places to get the handsome comparable salary.
All of the above could be the reasons why your father wants you to pursue for government jobs. He has seen it maybe, and definitely wants your good.
Having said that, I do personally wish to get something like that, and I would have no regrets.
You need to see both sides of the coin first before you decide what is heads and what is tails. If you ask people in a forum where 90% of us (or even more) are in IT, you would only get to know more and better about IT. I am not against IT job, I am just telling you the other side of the coin, which unfortunately no other comment has highlighted.
Good luck!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions but many don't even begin to understand the level of problem you will get to face,
Most important point which I am not even going to bullet because this should be a sufficient condition to deter anyone with common sense and basic understand of probability from considering government jobs because of the number of people who compete against you for the posts and the probability that you will get selected!!! It's usually 1:3000 or something in that range gets worser if you are a general candidate, why would you not spend that time to get yourself in a job that not only pays you more but also doesn't have a stiff competition. Just consider the amount of effort require here vs opting for something down below,
becoming a geologist or a botanist or a historian or an audio engineer or becoming one of the million other jobs that are not as saturated as a government job or a software engineering job or a doctor job. The more nonconventional the easier it is to get into.
1. People here predominantly seem to think that government jobs are respected, but don't understand that even grade A officers will need to respect IAS or IPS officers like a gardener does to grade A officers. Heirarchial structure work both ways. Not to mention what will happen if an elected representative decides to pay a visit saying he has promised something to the people and you have to ensure that those impossible promises are fullfiled, do you now how many times MLAs and MLCs have publicly humiliated government servents for not fulfilling promise their own promise? Calling such public servants anti people and turn the entire town against the person giving him sleepless nights?
2. You will deal with different types of people in an open setting unlike in corporate world were everything is at some level client-provider sort of relationship. Exchanges tend to be mellowed you will never encounter harsh disrespect. Worst thing you will be fired. In government jobs I have seen superiors question a persons upbringing, caste, where he eats only human food, if he has a father...you get the point and the gore of what you need to face.
3. You can be thrown in jail. Some positions have so much responsibility that if you mess something up you can be even wrongly indicted and thrown in jail, especially things that involve cash, some commission related jobs, this hardly happens in private companies unless you were accused of sexual harrassment which could also happen in government jobs equally.
4. You will need to have connections to survive, this is not a requirement it's a need, you will not be able to survive some issues like for eg., if you want to serve in your home state but unions keeps asking why you have not be shifted inspite of working in this location for so many years etc.,
5. Your relations will keep bothering you for favours and if it cannot be done you risk sometimes even losing that relationship. Some will hog your precious time.
6. Public complaints - these days people and governments are getting very serious and government are making sure that the public and government officials are working and giving their best. It's no longer like 1990s where you can wail away your time and no one questions. If you are pulled into a complaint then you will need to face the drums sometimes if the problem is huge then expect CBI raids and be ready to lose not just honor but mind and peace as well. Not to mention sting operations by local tv channels.

Join TCS, I've heard it's much better than govt job.
I'm trying to join too.
Please refer if any1 has any leads.
@seniordata tcs engineer sataya hua sher h...ungli mat kar nai to chir phar dega 😂
I was bright student from start, but I not tried for any govt coz of financial issues.
In 2015, I joined small MNC with 15KPM. I wasn't interested in doing IT job, so started looking for govt job coz if relax life and security.
I wanted big pay or post like IAS, RAS but I chose to hustle in IT for next 10 years to fix family problems.
Now I have our own home in my village and good package job.
In start I struggled a lot in IT for 5-6 years bcoz of poor english, inferiority complex, IT work pressure and Education loan burden ~SBI 13%Int. rate.
1 of my friends is 1st grade Bank officer in Central Bank and earning 55 KPM and other perks after 4+ yrs service. Now he also want to work in IT coz of Big Pay and WFH.
His CTC ~ 8 LPA with other perks
Mine CTC ~26 LPA
Now I have relax life and living in my village from 2 years.
Sit with your father and explain the scenario.
Everyone is my village says - tumre majje hai, gar se hi kam or time pe paise b aajate h. Badhiya h😅
Suggestions:
Take term insurance/health insurance to reduce risk.
Save in FD for Emergency fund ~ 6× of your monthly expenses.
Invest in Equity/Index fund/NPS etc, take help from Fee based Financial advisor.
Pension was introduced in Industrial era, that was suitable for everyone during that period. Salaried class used to get pension on retirement in their jobs. Later salaried class increased as everyone wanted secured and steady life and employer had to contribute & manage pension money. Hence it's added additional burden on companies, so they forced govt to free them from this responsibilty/liability, so govt introduced new scheme similar to old but here employee need to contribute and manage, so now you responsibility come on our shoulder and it's now your liability.
Coz of increased living cost and inflation, no one want to take your responsibility till you died.
Ask same question to you - do you take your retirement responsibility(pension) and liabilities on your shoulder? Most probably no that's everyone wants govt job.
So Govt stopped old pension system in 2004 and introduced NPS. Govt is also reducing jobs with fast pace.
Some insights from news I watched some months back:
Central govt provided jobs in 2014: ~12% of total population.
Govt Jobs in 2019 reduced to ~ 8%
we moved into Information age and now in Industry X era - AI/ Data age.
In 19th century labour union fought for their rights and forced govt to create rules that's why you work for 8 hrs. IT companies knew this history so pushed pressure on govt to not allow unions in White collar jobs and flexibility in rules and taxes. In return corporates provided private jobs.
In India we have some strict laws, do you know them? create unions, community and flight for your rights and issues such against layoff etc
Out pressure on govt, companies and raise your voice in public else on one will flight fir your right/problems.
Farmers fought for their rights and then got results.
I am not in favor and against any company, govt or party.
Per my knowledge, new Government jobs do not pay monthly pension anymore unless you are speaking of NPS contributions.
BJP states are not paying pension but AAP and Congress states implemented old pension scheme and govt employees of those states will get higher pension as old times

Why wait for pension if you can earn much more in a private job. Just make sure to have your savings on point ( doesn't mean you have to be a miser) and you are all set. Consult a SEBI certified fee based financial advisor for your investment planning and dip into both debt and equity part and you should be all good. With proper financial planning achieving FIRE (Financial independence retirement early) is possible. With these much differences and if you are pretty good at what you do kindly ignore your father and let him know even without pension you'll do better than him in life.
PS: Goverment jobs had really good pension part in older days. Not so much nowadays.
Chief
If you feel overwhelmed, then move out and stay at a different place. Nothing wrong with taking a bit of time out when the place you call home is taking away your mental peace.
Government jobs mein ab pension nahi hai. Khatam ho gaye pension wale din.
And govt employees are literally dumb and can't think logically. Be it skills or life decisions, they are losers.
You can earn more than a government employee. Ek govt employee jitna apni poori life mein earn kar sakta hai, private employee can earn double of it in just 10 years (with right skills)
In govt job, you can't switch and you would be stuck your whole life.
Now people who think ki I can't get a govt job that's why I'm cursing it, unke liye i'd love to tell that I have worked as a government employee in NABARD as a computer assistant. But just in 2 years, I resigned because waha pe buddhe itne attitude wale the ki kaam jh*nt bhar ka na hota tha unse and computer walo ko bolte rehte the jaise unke naukar ho. Chu*iyo se Hindi and English mein ek letter tak na likha jata tha and din bhar office mein baith ke bas panchayat karte the. 🤣 I was so fed up of them ki I resigned.
Now I'm in private sector earning double than those chindi govt Bank Managers and getting respect that I deserve.
Govt jobs bas doosro ke muh se sunne mein achha lagta hai, if you are a man of skills and self respect, you would never join govt jobs. These jobs are for losers who can't develop any skills. Din bhar baith ke GK and current affairs ka ratta maaro, nonsense bs rato and bolo ki exam bada difficult hota hai. Aji l*da mera, ratta maarne ki power se intelligence judge karti hai Govt. People say ki civil services ke exams difficult hote hain, to bhai ye sab history geography and GK ratna har kisi ke bas ki baat nahi. Raata maar ke IAS to ban jaoge, but rahoge bewakoof hi. Even unke interviews bhi aise fuddu hote hain ki hasi aa jaye.
Oh man, feeling so relaxed, wanted to rant on those stupid people from my govt job. Achha lag raha hai ab. 🤣🤣
Chief
Ekdum sahi bola. IAS mei bhi bhot kam intelligent log hote hai. Baki jagah ki to baat hi mat karo. Jis room mei sarkaari banda jata hai, us room ka average iq 20 points se niche gir jata hai.
One of my friend left IT job and joined some railway signal job and now he is posted in some remote part of jharkhand. Saala Mumbai mei clubbing parties chorkr jharkhand ke jungle mei desi pee rha hai 😁🤣 I am sure he will resign very soon.
He is hating it thats why I said he will be resigning soon.
Man, most of the govt. sector that can get privatized will get privatized. Our country's economy is opening up to catch up with the economies like china. And in govt job, there is not that much job satisfaction. They too gets targets and it is tracked on micro level (talking from personal experience).
The growth that you will achieve in private sector in 10 years, that will require your entire career in govt job.
And govt job does not give Pension anymore, they give nps. In private sector also you can contribute to nps, and get pension after 60, exactly like govt sect. So this pension point does not make any sense.
In govt sector if you get a bad boss, you will be stuck with him, in private sector you can choose what you want to do. You decide your own destiny.
P.S: I am the first person to be in private sector from a family having 3 generation of govt sect jobs.
Government employees are also called government servants. That pretty much makes my point!
People criticized pvt job as 9-5 or rat race. What would you say about this?
Bro I do not think any government employee will get pension whosoever joined after 2002. So you can make him understand so.
Bro I think you have to take a stance. Preparation for the same gave me anxiety and depression. I explained and told my dad that I am not built for it and even refused to give any exams. Later on I got in private sector and I am earning more than twice of what is given in a public sector company.
Rising Star
Same was for me. My father had govt job and was forcing me to get one fir myself. I never gave any govt exams at all and focused on my skills in IT.
I would never prefer a sector where skills and talent has no values and people with high skills and talent are frustrated because of reservation. It's my personal view.
I can anyways earn way more than any govt employee.
My dad is a Central Government Officer so naturally, he wanted his kids to do the same but then he saw my package after my first switch and he literally switched his side. He no longer wants me to pursue Gov or to even marry a gov officer.
Try doing this, maybe he'll switch sides too
its all about the bribe

Follow his advice. Baap baap hota hai.

Kuch bhi
Rising Star
Now there is no pension in govt job after 2004.
You can tell your dad that you can earn high package righ now till retirement and build FDs or diversified stock portfolio, MFs , basically different types of investments which will help you earn 1 lakh per month as a return and that can be your pension. For example - FDs are very safe investment and 2 crore FD with 6 % return can easily get 12 lakh per annum as penson.
Rising Star
Bruh don't suffer mentally. The best thing that you can do is work in a different city rather than living in your hometown. There are many things that you will learn while exploring new places. And few people who say we can't earn much, are the one scared of failure. I earn 18L fixed with 2.9 years experience and I know people who are doing well in IT.
Pension is not there for new govt employees employed after 2004, if your father says so he might be talking about the epfo/ppf fund just tell him how much amount your company and you are contributing together for that per year! Halka of the problem will be sorted out there !
Else if he still wish to see. You getting a pension ! Just plan accordingly invest accordingly to get the pension where the big deal!
Also in government job you are not exploring new opportunities daily until n unless it's CIVIL SERvices ! Again the ser belongs to servant !
In IT you can work as an individual contributer, alone at home! From the mountains from the beaches, public recognition isn't there but self recognition is there which is imp i guess !
For IAS/IPS and other govt. Jobs
1.Spending your whole life away from your home city/state, leaving away all your cousins, siblings and parents and alike, and returning there when you have passed 60 years of age when all your near and dear ones might be dead due to old age or on their death bed.

3. No private or personal life
4. Even have to ask Govt. and other senior officials before taking long holidays.
5. Their child's education and Family Life suffers due to frequent transfers.
6. Life threats

9. Friends getting better packages, enjoying their life, partying, Vacationing and living life on their own terms without having to be answerable to any minister or public.
10. At the end, it's just a job and only thing that attracts people in this, is big house, security, car etc but all these won't be there in Central Postings.
I have many such points/data/videos and a whole bunch of useful information to show people the true face of govt jobs,
