I’ve worked at AT&T as a sales consultant for 6 years and 8 months where we prospect, uncover, and close on leads. I’ve used Salesforce for the past 4 years during my tenure. I’ve done B2B sales where I’ve received awards for it for 2 years consecutively. Loads of troubleshooting, uncovering needs through consultative styled selling, and tech app subscriptions.
I was wondering if I have the necessary skills to transition into a tech sales role. If so, what would be the best role/fit for me?Amazon Salesforce Google @

@infosys - obviously an IAS/any govt. employee will marry a pvt. Girl given she is attractive and afford the dowry. Win win for both . Ladki ko status and security and ladka ko “CEO@housewife” status dalne wali wife.
@infy bro , even when you get to top management position in pvt. you will also work on weekends . Do t worry

I used to go for a morning walk in my hometown and observed few things whenever I crossed by an I.P.S.'s, high court's public attorney and a Principal Director of Audit's government house.
The size of the house is almost equal to the open area around the house.
There are always 5-8 security personel (armed) deployed for their safety.
Two cars (Innova Crysta and Ciaz) along with a local police's safari escort always at the house.
Principal Director of Audit himself own an alto which just bites the dust.
Gardener, house help and a guard.
A driver.
Every year during Diwali, the houses are decorated as if there is some wedding.
These are the things I could notice from the outside and are of great value I believe. It is not easy afford such a massive house by ourselves. If you rent it out, a huge chunk of your salary goes away in just the rent. Then you have the house help, gardener, guard and driver. Two premium cars at your disposal and lots of security forces around. Not factoring in the fuel and maintenance is all free.
This is just one short glimpse of it.
I will tell you something more, I come from a place where Durga Puja is massively big, the crowd at the pandals is unimaginable. But whenever such a person shows up, the entire queue and crowd has to wait till they are done.
I know I earn 5x more than what their salary is, but was I able to compensate for the power with my salary?
It doesn't end there, for public issues, no matter what you earn if you are not in power, the police, local administration don't really take you seriously.
For them a phone call sorts out everything. I have seen this as well, when a road had to be constructed and the whole colony tried and failed.
Yes, people say all the powers come from colonial era and are not there anymore, but believe me, till the time there is hierarchy in the world, the powers would remain as is. Just take an instance of how employees are aware of what their managers might do to them due to the powers vested in them.
In short, yes money is something that is definitely not the driving factor for top tier or any, government job. But almost everything else is.
We should not compare jobs like Rail locomotive driver, peon, sub-inspector etc to IT jobs. Even in IT not every other job pays you dearly, you have to be in good places to get the handsome comparable salary.
All of the above could be the reasons why your father wants you to pursue for government jobs. He has seen it maybe, and definitely wants your good.
Having said that, I do personally wish to get something like that, and I would have no regrets.
You need to see both sides of the coin first before you decide what is heads and what is tails. If you ask people in a forum where 90% of us (or even more) are in IT, you would only get to know more and better about IT. I am not against IT job, I am just telling you the other side of the coin, which unfortunately no other comment has highlighted.
Good luck!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions but many don't even begin to understand the level of problem you will get to face,
Most important point which I am not even going to bullet because this should be a sufficient condition to deter anyone with common sense and basic understand of probability from considering government jobs because of the number of people who compete against you for the posts and the probability that you will get selected!!! It's usually 1:3000 or something in that range gets worser if you are a general candidate, why would you not spend that time to get yourself in a job that not only pays you more but also doesn't have a stiff competition. Just consider the amount of effort require here vs opting for something down below,
becoming a geologist or a botanist or a historian or an audio engineer or becoming one of the million other jobs that are not as saturated as a government job or a software engineering job or a doctor job. The more nonconventional the easier it is to get into.
1. People here predominantly seem to think that government jobs are respected, but don't understand that even grade A officers will need to respect IAS or IPS officers like a gardener does to grade A officers. Heirarchial structure work both ways. Not to mention what will happen if an elected representative decides to pay a visit saying he has promised something to the people and you have to ensure that those impossible promises are fullfiled, do you now how many times MLAs and MLCs have publicly humiliated government servents for not fulfilling promise their own promise? Calling such public servants anti people and turn the entire town against the person giving him sleepless nights?
2. You will deal with different types of people in an open setting unlike in corporate world were everything is at some level client-provider sort of relationship. Exchanges tend to be mellowed you will never encounter harsh disrespect. Worst thing you will be fired. In government jobs I have seen superiors question a persons upbringing, caste, where he eats only human food, if he has a father...you get the point and the gore of what you need to face.
3. You can be thrown in jail. Some positions have so much responsibility that if you mess something up you can be even wrongly indicted and thrown in jail, especially things that involve cash, some commission related jobs, this hardly happens in private companies unless you were accused of sexual harrassment which could also happen in government jobs equally.
4. You will need to have connections to survive, this is not a requirement it's a need, you will not be able to survive some issues like for eg., if you want to serve in your home state but unions keeps asking why you have not be shifted inspite of working in this location for so many years etc.,
5. Your relations will keep bothering you for favours and if it cannot be done you risk sometimes even losing that relationship. Some will hog your precious time.
6. Public complaints - these days people and governments are getting very serious and government are making sure that the public and government officials are working and giving their best. It's no longer like 1990s where you can wail away your time and no one questions. If you are pulled into a complaint then you will need to face the drums sometimes if the problem is huge then expect CBI raids and be ready to lose not just honor but mind and peace as well. Not to mention sting operations by local tv channels.

What does your father do?
My father retired as an IAS and get 1.5 lakhs as a pension

Papa ko batao ki ab govt mai bhi pension nai milegi…nps mai paisa dalenge govt wale bhi
Vo to aap bhi dal sakte ho
Bhai government job ka charm.hmesa rhega. Atleast in North india
Friends pe hi nazar hai aapki lagta hai😃

Only a matter of few years that pension will be scrapped in all govt agencies.

Can't argue with parents, just make up things to say and get by. Tell him you applied, tell him later that you didn't get the job. Tell him how sad you're because getting govt job exam is so tough (makes him feel proud as a gvt emp). Tell him further that since it's taking time so you're doing private job meanwhile. After few years you'll be out of age to apply anymore. Then say that you tried, but didn't get a govt job. Live happily ever after
I did the same 😂
There is no pension in government job anymore.
Your father is delusional.
you have posted your question in wrong forum, You will get only biased answers here. If you want chill life with fixed income security and social status, Go with good government job. Nothing wrong in choosing govt job over private.
If you like learning new things everyday and ready to hussle, Pvt job is good option, It rewards smart and hardworking people. You can see infinite packages People post here.

Totally agree on this being the wrong portal. You cannot risk saying anything about govt jobs here.
I come from a small town in North India (so small that some of you would probably have not even heard the name of the place). My dad was posted there under Central govt deputation role from his native state govt role. Don't know if the system is still there in place, but back then it was really really commonplace. The respect he would get is immense, because presumably it was a very small town and we would come in the higher echelons of the society over there. Everything hunky dory and he always talked highly about his job. In comes the new MLA with his new casteist politics and overnight, we would be called dangers to the society. Myself and my brother heckled in school simy because we belonged to a different caste and we were supposedly oppressive (I was in class 6 back then and my brother in class 2, so I guess we had a lot of time to oppress everyone).
Anyway long story short, my mom, my brother and myself moved out to go back to our native place (which was also reeling with dirty politics back then) while my dad waited back to finish the deputation.
So when choosing between govt and pvt jobs, give this a thought as well. Politicisation of someone's job is deep ingrained in govt jobs rather than pvt. Just my 2 cents.
take govt job, if you dont feel like working there than you will easily get pvt job, later switch to pvt

Basically a private job you can earn more as compared to a govt job , invest properly plan your retirement, you will save more then govt servent in few years ,
So it's simple is that be happy what you do , now a days every sector converted to private and give more oppertunity. Who says govt job is 100% secure, there are some govt sectors are totally shut down or converted to private.
So just chill do what you love or needed for now.
The pension scheme has been removed already . Considering the benefits that the private organisations are giving like medical and other allowances and your interest majorly for the same, I think it's good to go with a Private Job.
Once u join a government job you have to rely on government to raise ur salary. But in private you can learn new skills and get placed at a higher role and salary package.
Exactly my status today, my parents thinks private jobs are worthless, specifically when they hear news of layoffs. Also my friends at home are working as bank clerk, block coordinator jobs and their parents couldn't bear the fate that I am working and earning more then their wards. My dad has cracked UPSC and mom SPSC so they wanted me to also be a UPSC kid, sadly I am very less aligned to their motives. Also I have seen my dad & mom, all these years with random transfers and other tantrums thrown by political situations every now and then. Hence I think we the private folks are in a better place. The grass on the other side is always greener.

Government job does not have pension anymore, unless it is Army. Unpopular opinion : old age thinking papas have ironically destroyed more lives of Indian kids then anything/anybody else. I am glad I did not listen to anyone.
Your lives should have yur regrets, not someone else's regrets.
Even govt jobs today do not have pension. Plus a govt. Job is for those who want to merely work in an instructional format, be open to corruption and knows how to do yes sir. You cannot have the ability to think. Private can be like that too. The only advantage....you might get an opportunity to test your ideas and do something new.
Your father is living in a dream land.
There is no pension in government now
Study about NPS scheme, SIP and inflation. Then calculate your expected future expenses and compare that with your father's life's expenses (adjust inflation) then show the figures to him and discuss..
Sip of just 15000 till age of 60 can give him 50k per month inflation adjusted
Tell your father, the amount you would earn in a government job till the age of 60, you would have earned wayyyy more in private jobs by the age of 40.
Also, you can contribute to NPS from private jobs too in case you want pension after retirement.
Government jobs are not lucrative anymore. Even if you take top government jobs like RBI, they pay peanuts compared to top software companies.
Agree with him and don't clear the exam. Simple.
You should convince them the bad side of government job like frequent transfers, corruption, political pressure and lot more.
For stability in life private jobs are way better than government job.
