My employer has announced they are pausing their Social Security contributions due to too much uncertainty around the program. Does this technically count as a reduction in benefits? Shouldn't we be compensated in different ways?

That’s odd. Employers are required to pay social security taxes of 6.2% and withhold the same amount from employees. They can’t not pay that.

I would talk to a lawyer because unless you’re misunderstanding what your employer is saying they can’t just stop paying SS

Sounds fake. Which employer? It would make headlines if they did it.

Wait, what? Isn't that illegal for them to do? I don't think social security payments are optional for businesses...

I could believe that some yahoo would get marinated in propaganda and make a claim like that. But it's clearly illegal and I seriously doubt it's actually happening. Sounds about as credible as all the people claiming they're running out and buying a Tesla, or maybe even two or three.

Yes because that means the is about to down size get as much work out of you at the same time higher someone else train to be a yes person then let you go

That doesn’t sound possible. But if they stop withdrawing SS from your paycheck then your paycheck should increase. If that does happen I would not get used to have that money to live off of.
