Microsoft Received some feedback yesterday that I’m “Too smart for the role and they feared that I’d get bored and leave quickly. “ It’s honestly the most confused I’ve ever left a call. Does anyone know what this means? I thought it was a compliment initially but in retrospect it just doesn’t seem very genuine. Have y’all had anyone hit you with this one?

Forgot to mention that I am currently working as a senior graphic designer, and I want to transition to AD. So, I applied to a mid-sized shop and landed an in person interview! However, this would be my first time ever as an official AD, and I dont want to seem too much of a rookie...
Make sure you have a good pitch as to why your experience as a senior designer makes you different to the other applicants. Good luck!
Depending on the shop they may want to further understand your conceptual process.
They’ll likely choose something in your book and ask what your involvement with the project was. If they choose a project you didn’t lend much help to the big idea, then point them to a campaign you helped craft the idea for.
They’ll likely then ask you how you got to that idea. How did XYZ ad come to be?
What’s your process like for concepting campaigns? What’s an example of a big idea campaign that you love and why?
How would you describe a big idea? What does it mean to you?
Act borderline crazy. It works for me.
What’s a concept?
Art director and designer are two complete different roles. Art direction is about bringing ideas to life. It’s not design.
