My recommender has been totally MIA and doesn’t respond to texts. What do you do in this situation? I thought it was someone I could count on, we were close enough to hang out outside of work and had a good relationship. Don’t know why they would act this way…

Moving from a boutique (<30 employees, MBB competitor) to the strategy practice of a Big 4. Have only worked for boutiques in the past, so I’m expecting there to be some major differences in terms of working style.

What are the major differences and ‘watch outs’ you would point out to me? Could be anything from culture, to red tape, to compliance etc.

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it.
