my senior coworker doesn't understand basic accounting (e.g. the signs of asset vs liability accounts) and all the hand holding that is done by everyone else to make up for it is very frustrating

Are you sure they have accounting background? A lot of my coworkers are law only backgrounds so they don’t understand basic accounting

why don't you teach them?

I thought leads would weed staff like that out before becoming a SR.

That's honestly pretty impressive. If managers they work with know this, they probably won't be your coworker for long 😅

I don’t think it’s our job to teach a fellow senior what a debit or credit is...at least no my job, whoever hired the senior can do it

I met an audit team of manager and SM that can’t do simple math: I spent hours explaining to them that the difference between $4 of expense and $2 of income is $6. They kept insisting it’s $2 😂.

Lol maybe they were tryin to explain that loss wld be $2

uplifting

How did they get promoted not knowing this stuff?

Ah where were they hired from?

Why wasn’t I on that engagement

No CPA I take it?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?
