What state are you in?
How about trying to ask the local police department. Maybe he can start there.
Or get armed and get a guard card and try out security work.
If I could give him any advice, I’d tell him to start in a local jail. Get a couple years in there before anything else. You’ll learn what your area is dealing with. Violent crimes, drug problems, frequent flyers, etc. Jails will also help you learn the language and demographics of your area. You’ll make great connections with patrol before you even get there.
Check with your local area. Most urban and suburban areas only hire at 21. Out it rural areas you can find some agencies that will hire at 18. However you guys should call around and check. I’m the meantime working correction would be a great way for him to see if the career field is for him. Most places will hire at 18 and he will be able to make decent money for his age and gain valuable experience that will help him if this is really something he wants to do.
Two words: Fire Department.
