Been there, it's so nerve-wracking. When I first started at this company I was randomly pulled into a meeting with executive leadership. Ofc I was terrified, I was significantly younger and pretty much at the start of my career. It was an open convo and they said something so I nervously blurted out a reply pointing out a potential issue. I was MORTIFIED when everyone turned to look at me until the CEO grinned and said "finally, she speaks!" In hindsight it was pretty funny and we laugh about it today but man I obsessed about the interaction for WEEKS afterwards haha. That's when I learned to be confident in my abilities and to know when I messed up and should be expecting bad news. You got this!
If going to assume something, assume the best.
There's a good quote about this: “Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst, and unsurprised by anything in between.” You're gonna be all right, OP. It's better to believe that your sort-of boss genuinely trusts your knowledge and values your advice. If you get proven otherwise, then change your tune but you gain nothing by assuming worst case scenario right off the bat
I can’t even blame you, I’ve been on pins and needles a lot lately with the economy and just business in general not doing great for us. I don’t think you were totally out of place to be worried, but definitely take the time and be relieved and then confident in what you can do!
your mind is trying to protect you through adding anxious thoughts.
maybe time to get grounded, and help the mind to be in today and now.

“Can we talk.” is unnecessarily anxiety prompting - whether it comes from a boss, an employee, a child, a spouse, a landlord, a client, a child’s teacher. PLEASE take two seconds to explain what about if not otherwise obvious or coming from a salesperson.
I agree - especially when market conditions are bad and people are legitimately fearing for their jobs.
Here is a tip to try in a situation like this: simply ask the person to tell you the topic! No one should ask for or attend a meeting without knowing the purpose. Say that you want to be ready and focused when you chat and it will help to know what it’s about in advance.
OP how the convo ended up?
