My team has this subtle competition energy where people act helpful, but you can tell everyone’s watching credit and territory. It’s not openly toxic, just… tense. I hate feeling guarded at work, especially when collaboration would actually help us win. Is anyone else dealing with that “friendly but sharp elbows” culture?

It's funny, I feel that in sales. But I also felt it in social work, which is what I was doing before I switched over to sales. You wouldn't think that social workers would be competitive with each other but there's almost this toxic, unspoken performative empathy that everybody engages in. It really taught me that a workplace is a workplace, no matter what you're doing. So when I saw it in sales, I was not surprised.

Interesting!

Yep! Life of competitive sales. You’re lucky your workplace isn’t openly toxic. At my company, we’re all actively looking to stab each other in the back.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that!

New to the U.S., is the Healthcare Industry (via HIPAA), the only industry in the U.S. that legally mandates having a designated Privacy Officer? So for example, although GLBA has obvious privacy requirements, unlike with healthcare, financial institutions in the U.S. are not mandated by law to have a designated Privacy Officer?

I had a job interview for a role that I really want. The hiring manager scheduled me for an interview and did not show up. Emailed me an hour later stating that he got super busy and couldn’t attend, and would like to reschedule. This is a major red flag, but I can’t help but feel that I am missing out since this role pays 50% over what I currently make. Should I let the recruiter know? What’s your take on this?

I'm interviewing for the first time in awhile and am entering into a final round with a company who wants me to sign an NDA prior to the interview. My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…

How would someone coming from mostly retail wireless sales get into the tech sales industry? I have been a top performer in every sales job that I have had since I started my career almost 10 years ago. I don't have a degree which I feel might be keeping me from getting my foot in the door but I know I would be amazing in this field. I currently work out in the field selling to customers that have no idea I am coming and I consistently perform at the top of my market.
