My wife is seriously depressed and miserable in the first trimester of our second child. Constantly nauseous, can’t sleep, says nothing to look forward to, and it feel like she hates me for putting her in the situation and resents me for it. Gahhhhhh what else can I do to make this less miserable for her (and me…)?

Get a doula and a birthing/visioning coach (if you’re Indian). It’s like this offshore yoga teacher who teaches yoga, positive vibes and affirmations for the unborn child’s personality and traits…

Basically, any such forward looking BS you can find to keep her off your back 😂

My understanding is that this situation occurs with women more frequently than people disclose it. As a husband, I’d suggest, take few things off her plate as a starter, small things - paying bills, meals, laundry etc. Plan weekly events - have friends/family over, dinners, movies etc. Try, going somewhere on a trip - change of scenery helps. Finally- see if she can hang out with her friends or family by herself or better yet, stay with her family for a weekend or something once a while. In several cultures, women spend a good portion of pregnancy at their parents’ house. Helps with emotional ups and downs, they say. This is all you can do - if nothing works, power through. It’s worth it in the end.

F1, just gave a summary of how to be a good husband! Thanks F1

Sounds like she might benefit from talking to someone. The physical symptoms sound tough but the nothing to look forward to sounds like a concern. Hopefully the first trimester symptoms pass soon and you can get help with any broader issues that need help.

Imagine being constantly nauseous - just that with no other symptoms is enough to drive someone insane. Add to that all the other anxieties and physical symptoms of being pregnant. Agree on some therapy + you doing everything possible to make her life easier

Also to cope up daily up and downs start activities that would distract her from nausea or other symptoms. We started watching Netflix series or spend more time in baby play areas. Play areas and watching little babies help to get excited and form more attachment. For nausea try sour things.

Appreciate you raising this. Sorry bro. I Hope this all helps or at least you see there are others that may have been there man.

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We plan on having kids within the next year or two, and it’s highly u likely that she’ll be able to keep her current gig. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up.
