Delta : Best in most categories overall. Amex plat gets you free lounge access
United : Decent flights with less delays and low cancellations than American
American : Better take Amtrak than flying with them.
I’m wondering how many people commenting here actually live in Chicago.
Delta is the best airline of the three, true. However, it’s absolutely the worst option of the three in Chicago, unless you know for a fact that you’ll basically only be traveling to a Delta hub for all your projects, which seems unlikely. Delta just doesn’t have the same presence in Chicago that United and American do. Your flight options will be far fewer, with less flexible timing, and more layovers.
Between United and American...honestly, both are not great, and there isn’t that big a difference between the two. United I think has better partners in the network for redeeming points internationally.
Feel like a bunch of people on this thread just chimed in bc they know Delta is the best in general. But for Chicago specifically, it really is not.
I was a delta flyer forever. I loved delta but switched to United when I moved here. I was on a team with a lot of chicago to New York travel. My united flights got delayed a lot (I blame lga for that) but rarely cancelled my delta coworkers got cancelled and stuck overnight multiple times. If it comes down to it a non hub flight is going to get cancelled over a hub.
Whichever one has the most convenient flight times to your client site. Dont overthink it.
I do ORD and MDW. Delta is the nicest but American for the past 3 years has always been the most convenient (I.e. leading to me aggregating the most points).
SW (MDW) you accrue a crap ton of points, but can only fly N America
Delta. I wouldn’t be caught dead on the others.
United...United is based here and practically owns ord. All of the common flights such as NY are right past precheck so you can board your 6am flight right before takeoff, and United flies direct everywhere. Next in market share out of Chicago is American, but their product and upgrades are suffering. Delta has few flights out of Chicago besides to major cities, and you will not want to connect if you are a consultant. Only other choice is southwest if you’re a south or west side local, I’d have chosen them if I wasn’t living off of the blue line.
I was trying to slip in a funny without going directly at the KPMG poster. I’ve had written offers from Deloitte, but in the end decided moving to another Big4 isn’t going to accelerate my career. No legitimate ill will towards Deloitte, although when I found out they bill 45/week I was turned off pretty quickly. Anyway, I do stand by the United recommendation but have considered a switch to AA or WN and likely will do so after a move.
Do NOT do Delta out of Chicago - the number of flights they offer from here makes them untenable. Been flying constantly for the past 6 years and United seems to be the best bet here, with American as my backup
Delta has the consulting fast track status challenge. Take advantage!

Just do delta or United
Delta 100%. Plus they fly out of midway which I think is easier than going to ohare
DL footprint in MDW is minimal - basically just to hubs.
United is fantastic.
You guys all recommend doing delta even if it makes you have a layover over AA which has direct?
Always fly direct if you can. Reduce the number of variables/failure points. The differences between the major carriers aren’t significant enough to prolong travel times and risk missing connections just to stick with one airline, IMO.
If you're going out of ORD, united is great. Like someone said above, they have the majority of ORD gates and plenty of flights going anywhere you need. I've never had an issue getting a flight to a client site that's within an hour or less of when I need to be there by.
United and then American out of ORD. American or Southwest out of MDW. I live barely 20 minutes from ORD, so never fly out of MDW. Fly what is best for your outbound travel.
People praise Delta, but I had more negative experiences with them than not. They very aren’t convenient from ORD anyway.
You’re right. I should have said Delta. Guess I’m so against them, I’d rather just not advise anyone to fly them.
OP, just go to ORD and fly United and let American be your backup!
Do your own research!!! Google. Don’t take the lazy way out here
Delta
Delta
Delta has the best service so if it’s convenient then fly them. I would say just sticking with one airline is the most important thing
