HCL Technologies offer being delayed and recruiter keeps saying that there's a problem with their "Offer release portal system." I have already stated my issues with relocating until after I have the offer signed and ready. The project is supposed to start on the 19th and I'm supposed to join before, or on that date. It's already coming up soon and I don't have the official offer so that I can confidently start the relocation process. Has anyone else recently dealt with this?

I honestly think they’re saying they can’t find candidates but in reality don’t really want to hire. Not in the sense that the open roles are fake but they want to squeeze the current staff to work understaffed so open roles can change to junior titles/lower compensation since someone is already doing the work. Everyone has been working in these conditions so they will not expand if they sustained after layoffs. I think only new business wins may potentially increase headcount but I will not be surprised if they just have leads take on another account or promote juniors to be responsible. That will still be cheaper than increasing headcount.
I always see the trend in lowering headcount and shifts in workload and promotions (promotions means taking on more responsibilities/work) but never an expansion of headcount, like adding more planners, assistants, analysts or whatever.
I suppose in this state of capitalism, productivity is really exploitation.

A recruiter told me (off the record) that many of her briefs included the directive: don’t bring me any white males. So, while it’s unquestionably important to diversify, this extreme shut out could be one factor to what’s happening.
Totally agree with ACD1 and CD3. There is so much at play here and it’s such a unprecedented time for hiring, diversity and our industry. An industry that was once known for being incredibly competitive, but now more people as a whole are prioritizing their lives over their careers because the pandemic changed how we think about priorities.
So point one, agencies NEED to diversify. They made public promises to do so, I’ve already seen articles naming and shaming companies that have not met diversity goals nearly a year later and they should be. There is great POC talent out there. And yes a lot of people got laid off last year but if your factor in that most of the industry is made up a white males then it stands to reason that a lot of them got laid off (I wouldnt go so far as to say majority of lay offs/jobless are white males in advertising bc statistically so many women had to leave their jobs last year bc of childcare/gender family dynamics). So even now with demand high white males aren’t getting hired because hiring priorities have shifted to POC and women.
Which brings me to my second point which is a lot of people that left advertising have decided to stay home with kids or pursue a passion project or moved on to tech or in house...just reading around this bowl we see story after story.
Advertising got so used to laying people off and always having a talent pool with the next new business win but not anymore. The pandemic shifted priorities and a significant percentage of those people who had to quit their jobs or got furloughed or laid off by agencies have decided enough is enough with ad culture, they aren’t coming back to advertising. Result? Our present talent shortage...and an abundance of freelance opportunities 🙏
I’m curious how many people are leaving the industry all together - either a career pivot (ie: going in house) or getting out all together (ie: starting their own small business)
It’s probably more that they don’t want to pay, particularly when compared to tech sector. The workload, lack of work/life balance and egregiously understaffed teams all combined with low ball on pay...well, here we are.
