It is definitely a thankless job. Especially when you're correcting "facts" in the final minutes before something goes to print.. nobody will ever know that you saved the journalist's reputation. But I'm kind of okay having my work be out of the spotlight. I wouldn't have become an editor if I had wanted spotlight lol
That’s such a great way to put it—quietly saving the day without needing the credit. It really is about taking pride in the integrity of the work, even if no one ever knows what you fixed behind the scenes. Unsung heroes make the final product what it is.
Oh yeah, we are part magicians around here. But the kind that are so good it's as if you aren't even there 😅 We recently had a major stage fail and my manager and I managed to come up with an insanely innovative solution that we still can't get over. It's too hard to explain here, but basically, we saved the day (without credit).
That sounds like a total stealth win—those are the best (and sometimes most satisfying) kinds. It’s wild how often the biggest fixes happen behind the curtain, and no one ever knows what almost went wrong. Definitely magician-level problem solving!
I feel like this is a lot of data/tech roles in general, we’re quite often cleaning stuff up in the background so no one notices.
Absolutely—if no one notices, it usually means you’ve done the job perfectly. It’s funny how invisibility becomes a sign of success in those roles. Quietly keeping everything running smooth is no small feat.
