Doesn’t look that great to me
This isn’t quite correct. 5% back is only for travel booked through the portal. CSR gets 3% back on ALL travel codings ranging from parking to subway fares.
Additionally, the CSR still gets a boost on redemption (1.5 cpp on travel booked through portal) and has transfer partners while CFU has neither.
The elimination of a relative bonus on dining hurts the CSR, but not to the point where the card isn’t worthwhile. I would carry both cards to maximize bonus spend and redemption.
3% on all travel codings is a 1.5% advantage for CSR (maybe 2.25% for portal redemptions), but parking, subway, etc. are minuscule expenses that won’t even put a dent towards the annual fee.
1.5x bonus redemption through the portal for CSR means a max of 4.5x on travel purchases, which is still less than 5. For CFU.
Unless you are putting massive spending on your cards each year while focusing on high value redemptions, I don’t see how CSR is worth it’s fee. Effectively a $250 charge to transfer points to partners?
Is that quarterly or permanent cash back?
5% on travel booked only through Chase's portal.
The CFU doesn't offer any of the travel insurance or other benefits, but we aren't travelling anyway.
I would downgrade to sapphire preferred. It has a $95 annual fee and you can still transfer ultimate rewards points
