Almost all the agency leadership teams are on the East coast so employees there are more visible. West coast is its own thing due to time differences. It sort of follows ESPN, they focus on East coast teams and than later in the day the west coast takes over. Midwest gets skipped. Working in the midwest you’re basically working in a satellite office so you get skipped over.
It’s a good question and I’m curious too. My perception is that most Chicago agencies outposts asked to support larger network work for global business typically run out of a ‘coastal agency’ office.
Some agencies have promotion cycles and requirements that are incredibly laughable. (ie, they replied to a client on their own, so they should be promoted to a Sr manager. ) I think it is a part of the idea of their idea of "culture" in the work place.
