Oliver Wyman 🐠 what's your honest assessment / satisfaction level at your firm? I heard lots of great things and <$65k salary isn't cutting it for me here.

My honest assessment is that it's a pretty good place to work. Things I like: meritocratic performance reviews, people are down to earth, flat hierarchy and teamwork, never seen anyone thrown under the bus, no utilization measure, no pressure to do "extracurriculars."
Things I don't like: if you're a generalist, you'll probably end up doing FS work (so make sure you like - or don't mind - working in FS sector). Training and official onboarding is somewhat lacking, particularly for experienced hires. Benefits could be better (a la BCG's $5 copay). Business class flights only on 6+ hr flights. More bureaucracy now than there used to be (e.g. have to book flights through corporate travel agent, use corporate amex, stuff like that).

Generally agree with OW1, although for myself I rarely found myself wanting a formal training we didn't have. Other thing I'd say is it's a firm that highly values expertise, and is good at helping you build such expertise quickly. Mostly that's on projects as opposed to training - with teams well designed to pair you with people you'll learn a ton from.

If you want to be more of a pure strategy generalist, you may find your trajectory slowing down or capping out around the threshold of Engagement Manager. Or if you have your heart set on one specialty (e.g. Health) but don't already have specialized knowledge or skills, you may find yourself getting pulled into FS instead given it's still a key engine of growth.

Yea pretty sure our secretaries pull that or better and EY is known for poor pay

I have several friends that work there and they enjoy it. I would say they have a fairly similar experience to most MBB consultants, save for some minor things in terms of support services and other non-salary benefits.

What's McK's entry level role salary as a comparison?

I think it's $83k

Can confirm. EAs make more than most consultants

I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?
