Has anyone noticed that busy season is changing into a marathon, not a sprint? I’m working close to 60 billable hours/week year round, and 70+ Feb - April. Is this a bigger trend?
How many days is it acceptable to have 0-3 billable hours when you know a storm is coming?
What the most outrageous billable hours you can confirm at your firm? Just learned from a partner that the highest billers at my firm came in at 3600, 3500 and 3200. Seems fishy to me.
I’d be curious to hear about people’s chargeable/billable hours. What are your goals vs actual, best/worst years, etc. I’ve only ever worked at one regional firm so my knowledge is fairly narrow.
Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
Do you count Sundays as a weekday? Somehow I always end up with an ASAP billable work. Not complaining, just making observations.
Deloitte folks, what is your year to date client billable hours ? Disclose your level as well please.
What does your work schedule look like (roughly) if you are aiming for 1900 billable hours?
Is it just me or the average billable work in infrastructure transactions has blown off steam in the last couple of weeks?
I’m wondering whether and how other firms credit time spent by associates on business development for purposes of meeting the annual billable hours target. Is such time fully credited?
Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.
Anyone else completely mail it in after giving their 2 weeks? Major senioritis for me rn. Probably had 2 billable hours today. Maybe
Am I being overworked/underpaid as a first year associate at a midsize firm in Chicago? ($67,5 salary, 2100 billable hours) it feels like a good starting point but I’m uprooting my life to start here
It’s been a hot minute. Thai Basil Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Hoisin Sauce (Keto). My pre-covid work clothes are now loose on me. I’ll have to buy a new work wardrobe wherever that may be. I quit my job and am back in school. Goodbye tax, goodbye busy seasons, goodbye billable hours.. 😁
How many real hours does it take to reach 8-10 billable hours? First year associate here wondering what a 8-10 billable hour day would look like now that I’m seeing my workload ramp up slowly but surely.
How do you get 40 hours of billable work done (and then not fall behind on admin stuff) with kids at home!? I have a 4 month old and a 3 yo with care 2 days per week and I don’t think I can do this!! Please help!
Partner: I've been sitting on a request all week. You need to stop billable work and put together this deck today. And be quick about it. Cool? I thought so.
How are firms handling the economic downturn in terms of billable hour requirements for associates? Are annual billable requirements being updated or mitigated in any way? Curious to see how other firms are handling this issue, and also afraid of not being able to take any time off until 2021 😳
KPMG Advisory (Tech/Salesforce). What's the WLB? Avg billable hours vs actual hour worked?
What do you think is a decent ratio of required billable hours per year to salary? I.e., is $90K for 2100 hours a year too low?
Mid-level here. Has anyone gotten their firm to approve their doing work at a deep discount and, if so, what strategies did you use? A potential client approached me directly about a small matter (~20 to 30 hr amicus brief). The potential client (gov’t) pays a standard rate ~40% lower than mine, but I want to take on the project because it would be a good professional opportunity (e.g., high profile case & client) and of course the lower rate won’t affect my comp directly. 🤷♀️ All advice welcome!
Considering move from B4 to ACN, with sales experience and managing team of 10+ team under belt. Expect M Or SM at ACN?
Do you feel like you have to trade between good culture and comp, or do they typically go together in your experience?
Does anyone know of any companies who offer tuition reimbursement for employees pursuing grad degrees? (MBA/PhD). I want to do a PhD part-time but can’t afford the tuition and won’t qualify for a GA
Is anyone from McKinsey willing to answer a few questions about the interview process? Applied to a few roles. Wanted to find out if there is a way to increase the odds of getting an interview.
What are the biggest differences between working in big 4 consulting versus working for someone like Bain or McKinsey? Thanks!
I hate to quit my job as a software developer without another job lined up but I have my reasons behind it. Ive had panic attacks and bad anxiety within the last few months, hard time sleeping at night, I am not happy and I have frequent headaches. I've also been told some people aren't meant to be engineers, says my manager. I have less than 2 years of experience but I'm wondering what would you do in my situation? Would you leave tech or stay in a similar role? Or take a short break?
Comp talk timing? Any news?

Had a minor back injury (should heal on its own) but I don’t think sitting in an office chair all day is helping. Any ideas to make it more bearable?
How competitive is the mbb and tier 2 consulting industry. Any tips on how to best survive and succeed vs other smart peers?
Google contacted me via LI about a strategy and operations role. I saw on LI that of my 30 business school friends who work at Google, 0 are in S&O. Why do you think this is the case? It could be random chance, but is S&O low paid, or otherwise unattractive for MBA grads for a different reason? 🤔
Starting at Accenture next week and wondering if there are any options to expense work from home stuff equipment as monitors? Thanks!
Plot twist in the Bezos story: he’s hiring some truly unsavory people to represent him, per NY Times. (I’m a little obsessed by the story.) Cont’d...
