Any big law associates high risk for COVID nervous about going back to the office even after you’re vaccinated? I just don’t see how a firm can require 100% of people to vaccinate so nervous about the people I’d be around

Not being flippant but isn’t that the point of being vaccinated...you can’t get sick anymore? I at least hope it is because that’s why I got it!!

like

A3, glad to hear you're in remission. Best of luck to you!

OP, why didn’t you think firms can require people to vaccinate before returning to the office? I believe that it’s a firm’s choice but if I wanted to I could tell people they would be ineligible to enter the office without proof of vaccination. If they won’t vaccinate they can work at home.

like

I think DWT is requiring this already.

I know that even with the vaccine being widely administered there’s still a risk, but at a certain point doesn’t the risk of a car crash on the commute become more likely than any risk of exposure?

like

I think the issue is the variants, some of which are both more communicable and more deadly than the original virus. Unless we get this thing completely extinguished we may be in a permanent loop.

I just put the lotion on its skin. Vaccine? Fine. Go to office? Fine. Stay home? Fine. Long as I have money booze and (legal?) drugs. I’ve started ignoring all the other noise it seems like everyone has a wildly different take and opinion (majority of whom do not have medical degrees or science backgrounds).

Leaving after one year to another biglaw firm?

Stub year in a free market firm frustrated about hours. Everyone was complaining about being slow last month, but it seems most passed 100 hours and I only got 60. I’ve been doing everything mgmt says to do but I’m making no progress in getting work. I can’t help but think I don’t fit in here and people don’t like me - especially because I went to a lower-ranked school, grew up poor, and am neurodivergent so networking is hard for me. Whole system feels very nepotistic. I just want to give up.

Difficult and personal question.

I feel terrible, no self confidence and want to get out. Any alternative career suggestions?

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

I’m a first year litigation associate and have felt depressed for the past six months largely due to work. I think I’ve landed a once in a lifetime opportunity and can swing the pay cut since I have no student debt. Thoughts?

Let’s talk poverty in BigLaw! Do you think it exists?Have you heard of any stories that would indicate some partners in your law firm are living paycheck or paycheck? Years ago, we had an equity partner pass away, and their windowed spouse was seeking contributions for the kids’ college education, suggesting the partner hadn’t saved for college... Still haunts me to this day.
