I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Counter-question: how do people actually get fired anymore in our lines of work? I’ve never seen it happen, and I’m met some real under-performers.
Yea low utilization is a phrase often mythicized with negative connotation. People hang out for a year with low utilization. No one is the wiser at the next place making more money as you still gained exp on your resume.
I get the racism and sexism aspects as they’re obvious. My question is job focused; people who do their jobs even barely to still hang on.

I’ve only seen it happen to lower performers. Could they have course corrected? Yes. Were they making progress? Yes. But their past performance was definitely fire-worthy.
I’ve also seen Managers give employees who definitely should get fired a pass. That is not okay, imo.
OP, do you really mean "fired" in particular? Laid off and counseled out are not the same things as fired.
Yes just straight fired

I know that, at SpaceX, after Elon's divorce, there were managers who wouldn't let their engineers walk by Elon's office because they were tight staffed and couldn't afford to lose any more people.
What?! From Elon?! Who would have guessed

I know of multiple CTLs at McK that came by surprise and were a little confusing. They're clearly not careful & cautious about that here.

I suppose we're not counting "CTLs" as "fired" here...

I was unexpectedly fired from my first job way back in the day. We got a new boss and he quickly established an incredibly hostile work environment and did not at all take kindly to me pushing back to protect my team.
Officially, I was fired for poor performance despite absolutely crushing it and objectively being the strongest performer among the handful of leads we had, but in reality it was because he was an unmitigated asshole.
I took a month to unwind then started my job search. I was able to secure a position at a B4 about a month into my search and the termination never came up.
