Jump. I’ve heard about our strategy practice and it doesn’t sound all that amazing for work experience (context, heard from MC folks who switched over b/c “grass is greener”).
It’s nice to bank the promo 1) for the resume and 2) because if you boomerang you’ll come back at the new level. My experience is it tends not to matter much in terms of exit opp comp / etc though
Everybody has a story during their interview about how they were close to their promo. Actually being able to put the elevated role in writing is what shows you could cut it, even if you only stay in that role for <6 months.
I personally would wait, unless you really hate life right now. Your exit ops only get better with time
OP you are at ACN at the end of the day and competing against Tier 2 and MBB.
Waiting for promo as BCG1 suggested only helps you if you come back.
If you see op you might be interested in like Biz Ops at a FAANG then it will not matter during the interview process as a C1 at Accenture.
I’d wait for promo! There will ALWAYS be some cool role in a startup
Well, there will always be big4, Accenture, etc. - all great firms of course. Even if startup goes bust your resume will be more interesting to those firms than „only“ Accenture.
I’m in strategy btw if that helps
Could you provide more info around the cool exit opps coming your way? What kind of work is it?
A1- lol that’s false, I do enjoy our strategy work and have mostly heard the opposite. Many MC people want to switch in
A2- mostly business strategy roles at tech companies
BCG1- that’s what I was thinking as well as for MBA apps. Wondering if my consulting experience will be discredited if I leave too soon
Slalom- that’s what I figure. It’s a cool role with a fast growing startup which is why I want to bite
Thinking more for bschool, since this role would be a C level role too
C level with 2 years out of undergrad?
P1- I mean it’s a similar level role to what I’d exit at as a C
Makes sense. I don’t think you need to wait for promotion, not a strong signal in my opinion as most assume it happens automatically anyway. Different if it were promotion to manager or beyond.
Jump, and use your upcoming promo salary to ask for more from the next opp.
