Pros and cons of going into pharma? Obviously the salary. But I’m concerned about being stuck in pharma once I start as a junior. How can I be sure to grow as a writer and move on from it?

Far less “#metoo bullshit?” What/where is this coming from D1, can you please explain?

like

I don’t agree that #metoo is bs, but there is a lot of over saturation coming from a variety of brands involving it

I’ve had juniors who went from pharma into mainstream. If you’re writing for consumers on health/animal/lifestyle products I don’t think it’s a death sentence... only closed-minded recruiters are your biggest hurdle.

CD1 - leukemia can be cured. So can breast cancer and lymphomas, as can hepatitis c and many more. Other medications can make people’s life a lot more comfortable. Otherwise people wouldn’t take them. Most people aren’t patient enough to continue take something that doesn’t offer a visible benefit. Can’t wait for you to tell us how much more valuable a fancier car or beer or points reward credit card is than medicine/science.

New product launches are a big negative to pharma. It’s basically pitch mode for months leading up to the launch, and then you barely get a break after the launch because then you have post-launch tactics you have to crank out. And you can’t control when the FDA approves the drug or new indication. I’ve had coworkers launch over holiday weekends (4th of July, Thanksgiving) and also during natural disasters (hurricane Sandy)

helpful

Then there’s people like me who love launches and specifically want to work on launch brands!

What drug cures beast cancer? Hepatitis C can be managed but not cured. Unless you know something I don’t.
This conversation is going in a typical social media direction where context and intent is lost. I simply stated my reason for not wanting to be involved in pharma work. For me it would be the ultimate soul-selling move, as if advertising itself wasn’t bad enough. I am on my way out of the industry because I’ve finally managed to grow up and I see life very differently now. There are much more important things I need to attend to, including the ailing health of loved ones. Isn’t it ironic.

Copy in pharma is so difficult. You can’t claim anything - or say anything that may kind of sort of seem like a claim. Everything you create will be torn apart by 47 lawyers at multiple stages of review. I’ve also worked in auto and finance and found pharma to be the most limiting for creatives (I’m a former creative). The only pro is the $

Well you can claim everything you want as long as it’s on label and you include the important safety information

Agree if you are a creative if you are working on consumer especially health and wellness you are fine. But on pharma the fair balance will stifle you. And the inability to promote your work. I speak from experience. But it is a great field for account and strategy. And new biz. Some great people and far less #metoo bullshit.

#metoo isn’t bullshit and I can guarantee there is as much sexual harassment going on there as there is everywhere else

Job offer extended but now some red flags… I was extended an offer today with a pay raise and great benefits. It’s in a field that interests me more but, now some red flags have come up. They voided my offer after asking for time off way in advance in December of this year & the pay that was discussed on the phone is different from my offer letter. I asked the recruiter to clarify and she said I must’ve not heard her correctly on the phone. I’m not having second thoughts… I was excited.

Hey Everyone!
I’m coming up on one year of working in consulting post under grad in a financial services vertical. I know I want to transition to corporate strategy down the road, but don’t have much interest in financial service strategy. Should I try and switch into a more applicable practice such as M&A or operations? Will I be able to break into corporate strategy without any past experience in that industry? I want to avoid getting pigeonholed into FS, but with COVID, don’t want to leave.

Hi, I'm an artist with 5 years of experience in the game developmentindustry.

After interview sessions, it comes to salary negotiation. To my surprise, the salary offer is below industry average, even more like junior-level salary.

Though my experience includes team leadership and I have described in detail how I could contribute to the company, the interviewer raised the offer, adding $300 only, still in junior salary range.

What does it really mean, and how do I win the negotiation?

TIA.

Hi folks, I recently applied for a new role in EMEA for a Specialist Solutions Architect. Got through n received an offer letter. But seems like the base is a bit lower than what i saw online in a couple of places (not sure of years of experience there though). Is it worth it to bring it up and ask the HM to raise an exception? How much time will this take? Is it a risk? Already the entire process has dragged on cause of delays on recruitment's part etc. Any advice or insight would be helpful!
