Hello Fish, looking for tax advice. I have quite a bit of savings in my home country, India, all earned from my previous job in mid 2010s before coming to the US. Those savings stay there as stocks. I have reported my cumulative savings every year on the FBAR IRS form. Besides this, is there anything else to do? I don't actively earn any income in India, and all I receive are dividends.

Once you get into a FAANG company, is it better to stay where you are or move around? I’m a dissatisfied with my current job but I have vesting stocks, work 9-5, and people to know and respect me. I messed up my interview with Millennium LLP for an entry level role and I feel nothing but dread right now. I believe it was my only opportunity at obtaining a high salary / profile job compared to my other options that only pay half as much. How can I accept the fact that I might not be able to start out as successful as I wanted to be? I believe it’s extremely difficult to jump between layers (E.G. Big 4 to MBB) later on in my career.

Have received joining date of may and my pregnancy is due in april and so I may be able to join only by august. What do i do ? Shall i inform the HR to extend the joining? (but I am afraid, I don't want to lose this opportunity) or I join now and then take an ML ? or I accept the offer letter now, try joining and worst case postpone in the end ?

Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers? I have a counter offer from my current company and on-site interviews scheduled for end of July with google and Amazon, but I’d prefer to go with the smaller local company if I can negotiate the salary (from offer letter) up another 5% or so.

Let’s talk alcohol abuse. Why don’t employers test for it?

I’d like to say “I ran an experiment”. But the truth is simply that I’m an alcoholic (or just an addict) by definition; I’m the type to have periodic mid/long-term bursts of heavy drinking. I most recently lost almost everything to it and my employer, if they did notice, had no concerns. Now I’m switching jobs and had to take a drug screen… I could have passed with flying colors and a 1.3BAC, no one would say a thing. It’s terrifying.

I had a hectic last three months working up to 16 hours a day due to my project. During this time I took advantage of convenient food which isn’t always the best. Now that things have died down I am having trouble switching from the less convenient food, snaking more than I should and not being as active as I was during the three months previously. I haven’t found what I need to motivate myself and I’m hoping that others could share what motivates them to get back into it after a hectic time
