What will be salary for 3yrs data scientist
Iâve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, Iâm under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promoâd) AND get higher TC.

For top rated that is true. For rated 2 and 3 performers obviously lower percentage
Ugh. Need to start factoring this in... ours are low single digits for top
Ditto. depending on level, there is a range that is applied to each person. Even for the highest performers, of late we are seeing the actual payout numbers diluted from a possible 18% down to single digits. This spreading the peanut butter approach is a loser proposition. It certainly allows the partner who has the pen to allocate across their practice but it also flies in the face of the top performers getting a material piece of the VC allotment. Partnerships will and always be a bit of a fiefdom. Getting Sr Partners to see the forest through the trees though by comping those who deliver vs those who donât in a material manner is not likely to occur in mass.
K1, a similar approach seems to be occurring at Accenture. The top end bonuses are pretty poor and at the end of the day, everyone ends up unhappy because the top performers get shafted and the poor performers are still pissed because theyâre being labeled as such... so no one wins
