Question for the group.
I've been searching for a job for over eight months.
Why is it that your resume matches almost perfectly to the job description you're applying to, bullet for bullet. Later, you receive the 'thanks but no thanks' email that states, 'we went forward with another candidate whose skills and experience aligns more w/ our needs'.
I'm applying to roles that I'm over qualified for, choosing to take a significant pay cut.
Is anyone else getting the same response?

Being over qualified actually works against you. Employers don't want to hire someone who will quickly get bored in their role. They also know you'll leave as soon as you find a higher paying job that matches your experience.

I'm in the same boat. But what I'm seeing is age discrimination and some appearance discrimination as well. I've been in my field for 30 plus year's. I've got the knowledge, the skill, and the need for work. But I've been told the same or just never heard another word from the company. And some of it is they see someone who either will not adapt. Or will leave for something better. I can honestly say I've never willingly left a job unless it was really that bad. In my younger years I went on maybe 1 or 2 interviews in a 2 month time frame and had a job. Now I'm going on 7 months and the interviews and opportunities are far and few between. Another thing a lot of tech companies look for are certifications. How many, what kind, are they up to date? Most will take advantage of those certifications. Some companies want the certifications but will not pay for the renewal. Even though they are using you and your certifications. Face it, it's an up hill battle getting hired when you offer everything and more for the job!!

I’ve been out of work since late August as well. I applied for basically the exact position I held at another company for 13 years in the same industry. Resume lined up. I had referrals from people who worked there and all. OP’s response is the one I got. It’s like they never opened my resume at all.

Second situation: I applied as a ScrumMaster in the same industry. Different company. Had a personal / professional reference. Same result.

It’s wild out there.

It's really wild

Because they aren’t actually hiring. They post because they have to.

like

Here's the messed up thing.

They're sending everyone a rejection email. No one is getting hired.

There's a lot of companies that are putting on a show for the shareholders to make it look like they're growing.

like

You're actually getting responses? Additionally... there's a good chunk of jobs posted to "maintain a presence" or whatever, that aren't actually available.

I'm at 160 resumes sent out where I met all (or maybe only missed 1 or 2) items. 3 interviews. 0 offers.

They may know that based on your qualifications, you’re at the higher end of the pay scale or above the pay skill. So they want someone more junior, who can grow into the role and will be there for several years, rather than you ageing out of it quickly. a lot of the time to employers post roles that they’re not actually trying to hire for but it’s a long pipeline to find talent so they just leave it up all the time and when they’re ready to hire, they have a pool of applicants.

In my 5+ months of job searching, I've been able to track 289 successful application recognition emails and 78 heartwarming denial form emails. There have been more submissions but as you are aware not every site acknowledges a submission. My total number is much higher as recruiters aren't included. I'm loving how I'm being asked how much I want on applications before I even hear any details on a role. I don’t know if there is shift work, OT, supervising people. Im still applying and getting the form in response. The resume has been rewritten professionally and reviewed by 3 different AI. For a while, I was using tools to customize to each role. That has ended. I have plenty of experience and can explain it. Interview wise, Im getting through the process and sooner or later will land the right role. Stay with it! Nowadays, you gotta always be looking. :)

You can find the companies that are fake hiring by the ones that just reset the date posted. As they make it appear like the posting is a new posting every 2 weeks. How many times do I need to see this AI prompting job is hiring. You all know who I'm talking about.

Hi Everyone. I am applying for a few design positions and I just got a response from a company that wants me to do a short video as part of a campaign. The problem is that I have 24 hours their instruction is: "An awareness video (please avoid stock video, we want to see your proficiency on Adobe After effects). Please focus on this, as this is the most important item of this assessment". So my question is. Are they being unrealistic? Also. Where can I find good stock videos? Lol

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.
