Question for the private practice PI attorneys. On average, how many new cases do you have coming in per month? And how many cases are being settled in a month so you can get paid? Trying to gauge what a healthy case number looks like. And if you wouldn’t mind answering, what is your average monthly revenue from these cases? Thanks!

We have about 150 or so active cases in a 2 partner firm with 1 paralegal, we are just finishing up our first full year together (opened summer 2022), we’ve had a growing average monthly revenue but It’s been consistently 80+ the past 6 months, and the cases id estimate are about 5-8 new cases a month right now and settling the same amount, it’s a mixture of smaller settlements and bigger settlements so it helps raise the average

I dunno how to reply so I’ll reply to all above, sorry for delay. Too many years of experience, started at 10 years experience, should have done this 2-3 years ago. I work a lot, prob 50 hours at least, I haven’t taken a full day off since we opened, I have to do work nights abs weekends to keep up. Lastly how do I generate cases- lots of attorney referrals, networking like crazy, and we have a small marketing budget for google.

Asking for wife who's also in banking. If she got ~$100k in signing bonus in 2019 for 1 year commitment in CA and started FT in July 2020, assuming she leaves before July 2021, can her employer claw back full amount in California? Some say it's much tougher to do so under CA law but wonder if anyone has any insights. Banks won't likely care about analyst signing bonuses, but associate bonus at EB with diversity bonus can be significant. If she quits before, she won't be going to another bank.

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??
