I imagine it’d because the morning flights are literally sitting there at the gate waiting for you to board, whereas the evening flights are at the tail end of upwards of 5 different flights?

The past few months probably has to do with the limited plane supply from the grounding of the 737s. It's had a pretty large impact on many airlines.
As to the difference between Monday and Thursday, Sunday is a slower travel day than Wednesday?
Evening flights just generally are late, especially on the east coast. Additionally, LGA/JFK renovations have completely bamboozled the east coast. JFK has actually closed 2 out of 4 runways.
Anecdotal? Does anyone have any statistics with a large sample size to confirm.
Maybe we all just want to get home on Thursday and delays are that much more irritating.
