Hey everyone! I'm currently evaluating the Austin, TX salary market for an accountant with 2.5 YOE in industry (F500), no PA experience, and 6 months away from becoming a licensed CPA (passed the exam, but working on experience). I've been looking around Glassdoor, Indeed, PayScale, and some other places, but I would like to get some insight from people in this app. Any idea on what a good starting salary should be for an Accountant position?
It's about equivalent to what you would get at 1YoE in MBB post-MBA. I don't know what your level is now, so consider this.
Generally UK salaries are abysmally bad both in consulting and industry. If you want real money in Europe, Switzerland is often the only realistic option.
Agreed, UK salaries, and frankly Europe apart from some some deals in Switzerland (cost of living much higher) are 35-40% lower at each level and across all industries (consulting, banking and tech) when compared to US. Higher up you start to nibble on bigger pieces of the pie more in finance based on structure set up of the org, but other industries you’d always fall short compared to US. That being said you tax rate in Europe is definitely higher compared to US for a lower salary point. It’ll be 50% plus for you in London. A good lifestyle in London can be reasonable or expensive, so you have both extremes. Medical is a huge plus even if NHS has its shortcomings. But my one advice, especially if the move is for family - folks in Europe work to live not live to work as in the US. They enjoy their life a lot more and give it more importance than work - so family wise you might have a better time growing old there compared to the US. I’ve operated between US/UK all my life, and US is great for exposure, education, career starts, but life wise I’d always choose Europe for the long term.
Yeah my bad; it’ll be 40% on a 50-150K pound income and over 150K pounds 45%; now compare that to USA, you get taxed only 37% if you are single and make over 518K, so your 150K person here gets taxed only 32%, and it’s more favorable for married couples.
It seems ok for base salary. Does it also include bonus/other benefits?
Deloitte 1. First job was a BA for Deloitte Digital then worked in industry for just over a year as a product specialistv
Check your net effective tax also for your municipality - a good chunk of that will go to tax and then housing fees etc
That package is okay, but of course 7.5 yoe post MBB, I think it’s low even for London standards, and can’t even compare to USA. I worked 5 years post undergrad in consulting and at FAANG, and make roughly 1.5-2x that. I think 150K pounds should be your minimum guaranteed package given your experience, but given your career breaks / challenges that you mentioned if this seems good to you, grab it by all means because by no means is it not a great offer.
*growth challenges - didn’t mean to highlight that as anything negative.
I think this salary is good. What level at amazon you entering? They’re known for lower bases FYI
