Any recommendation on a good standing desk ?
Look for that brief pause and just dive in. And if the person who was talking wasn't finished, apologize and let them complete. In the meantime, think of what you want to say, tailor it per the ongoing conversation and then say it with confidence. I had the same issue plus having a soft voice made me sound a lot less confident. Still trying to get it right tbh!
Dial in with your phone rather than using your laptop mic. Makes a huge difference.
OP - you are asking how to get involved in the conversation, not physically how to be louder, right?
As someone who is naturally quiet and introverted, speaking up in meetings has always been hard, and on video conference it’s so much harder and more awkward.
When I was newer I would always talk to my manager before a meeting and say “when we get to X topic, I’m going to ask this question” or “when we get to Y slide, can I be the one to point out the key takeaway.” Any good manager interested in your development is going to be fine with this approach as it helps you build confidence.
Now, on video calls I’m constantly pinging others asking what we should say next, who wants to say what, and sometimes even saying “hey guys I need to get in to have my voice heard, does anyone have a suggestion on what to say”
Tweak your mic volume up a little? Test it out with a friend.
Or make sure the mic is near your mouth. If your mic has a foam mic muff around it, the foam should almost be touching your lips.
If you’re hearing this and say “but I don’t have a headset”, start there.
I don’t think this is what OP was asking lol
Burp once in a while... make sure you’re not on mute when you do it.
You can contribute on process vs content. If you are too junior and/or too scared to speak up, you can try to synthesis people’s ideas and play a time keeping role
