Art Director 1, I am outraged. I’m saying the OPs original post is clearly from a white male. No one else would say “Can we be done with the outrage machine now?" Hence the “male” part of white male. You know, not caring about rape jokes?
Never mind.
I can believe he’s not a bad guy who simply said stupid things (and did a stupid thing by not cleaning up his feed a long time ago), but also don’t feel bad he got fired. Those were some pretty awful jokes, and he was a liability to his company. It’s always amazing to me how people don’t seem to understand there are consequences to your decisions, big or small. You have to learn from them.
Everyone who’s ok with someone being fired for 10 year old tweets, please post your twitter handle so I can research and determine whether or not you can keep your job.
Naw. Terrible people need to be called out
I mean you should read all the tweets. Dude works for fucking Disney and tweeted about child rape not just a couple times, more like 3 dozen. How dumb can he be. The world’s biggest children’s entertainment company 100% has the right to fire him for that.
I mean, I’m as liberal as they come but you all do sound like the type of people who can dish it out but can’t take responsibility for your own actions.
@McCann2 🤔
@freelance1 -- I'm assuming you've never stuck your foot in your mouth in your entire life, huh?
“The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!'” - James Gunn
Good riddance mofo.
I just went sort of crazy for a couple of years after, but I guess it’s different for everyone.
If you have a remotely high-profile career, you have to clean up your public persona. Not doing otherwise is sloppy and, because it reflects badly on the employer, clearly a fireable offense.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Twitter in the last couple of years, it’s that if you ever in your past made a joke about something, then you’re by default that thing today. So tough luck, Jamie.
The alt right spun us up and are laughing their asses off at us right now. All this does is give them fuel to say “see you created this callout culture and now you don’t even like it”. I hate that their dumb, mean scheme worked
When you’re a public figure and say awful disgusting things, you’re putting your career and reputation at risk, from any corner. No more homework to be done. That’s the truth and just because he’s a public figure you like doesn’t mean you should back down from it.
regardless of how you feel about his unfunny "jokes" it's worth remembering that the guy who pressured Disney to drop his ass is the same alt-right prick who spun up the Pizzagate rumors and has, himself, been accused of rape.
I’ve followed Gunn pretty closely since becoming a fan of Super. FWIW he has addressed apologized for these old tweets in the past unprompted, but also doesn’t pretend he didn’t tweet them or ever try to defend them. He started his career at Troma making vulgar movies. Disney knee who he was in his earlier career. And has admitted that he used to think just being gross and offensive was funny. But if you look at the last ten years or so of him online, he’s very vocal about love, acceptance, positivity, and believing in yourself. Really seems like he has learned from who he dead vs just being a guy who said some gross shit.
Didn’t he already apologize for this exact thing a few years ago? And now the dude who ‘unearthed’ the tweets again is having his closet cleaned out.
He’s talked before about why he didn’t delete them. That he doesn’t want to pretend he never wrote them. He admits he used to be that person but has grown. Now he’s being punished for that because some alt right pizzagate guys targeted him and dredged them up to prove a shitty point.
I have never and would never tweet or say things like this. It wasn’t funny 10 years ago and it’s not funny now. Don’t post horrible things on social if you are not prepared to deal with the consequences.
Why that tweet resonates with me
Is because Gunn has already proven he has learned and grown Fromm this from his apology is 2012 as well as his current action/messages on social media.
We should allow people to make mistakes and encourage them to change. If they have proven they take change and lessons from their past to better themselves and try to better their industries (like I believe Gunn has), we should not punish.
To me the line should be based on accountability and growth (which Gunn has shown and Rosanne has not)
1) please stop acting as if he was tried in a court of law. Who decides these cultural rules you all are trying to put in place? “It’s ok to do/day this as long as you say you regret it X years later, but not if you say this within the immediate news cycle unless you also regret what you’ve said...” He said something, he had to pay a price for it. That’s life. 2) I wonder how blasé you all would be if you were a woman who was raped, or a child. Easy for you to give him the benefit of the doubt but why exactly are you giving him the benefit of the doubt? Would you give a Trump supporter that same benefit of doubt in the same situation? Please be thoughtful in thinking this through.
