I worked at both and can tell you that neither AWS nor Microsoft value traditional strategy without implementation capability. You have to prove your hands-on technical chops to get in, even if you don't do tech work once you are on the inside. Strategy skills are a plus, but not the core.
For MSFT, A1’s advice isn’t fully accurate having worked there. The Corp Strat and BD teams will pick up someone with your skill set easily. Likely Sr. Mgr level depending on your current tenure. Great teams - run like in house consulting teams with great WLB. There is a mix of homegrown and outside talent in these teams to balance culture and skill sets
Same question here !
A1 - What COULD you get into at Microsoft...operations? Marketing? Comms?
Service teams rule the world there but are technically most demanding. Pre-sales has good roles, followed by Professional Services, support and business development roles.
