Don’t tell anyone your age. And keep in mind that Americans love english accents so that is a plus
Senior AE that's younger than the interns?
Irish works too, most won’t know the difference tbh 😂 Don’t if the lack of degree is a problem for account folks but it hasn’t been for me
Irish accent even better?
Do you think the lack of degree will be a cause for concern?
Don’t know about the salary but getting a visa can be quite complicated. Best agencies I think are w+k, anomaly and bbdo
Would the two years at a top WPP Media Agency with a promotion be enough to put the mind to rest about the lack of degree?
Stranger things have happened, but in account management, degrees are really important. I have not worked with anyone without a degree, especially not anyone as young as you. Not trying to discourage, but you may have those two things against you in a larger agency.
@Edelman1 agreed. I'm pretty good at interviews and I'm confident in the work that I've produced and the client I work across being an impressive name. I've a good story to excuse my lack of degree which I had to use here as I believe im the only AE hired without a degree ever, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be an even bigger deal in the states than here.
I would expect your salary to be around $50-60K for an AE-SAE role
If you're currently at a WPP agency, I would also look into the possability at transferring to another agency in NY in the WPP network. It might make the transition to NY a lot easier (as a backup option). I would assume you would transfer at AE/SAE level so I'm guessing you're looking at a salary range somewhere between $50k & $60k.
Correct. I started as an AE at 20 much to the dismay of many people. I'm to be promoted to AM by end of year but have no interest in remaining at my agency or in London.
Visa isn't a concern, my wife is American.
My main worries are if there are differences in levelling, which the first reply added fuel to. I recognise I am very young and I'm keen to work out what position I would be starting at if I made the move.
@OP, as a hiring manager I won’t lie, I’d be concerned about lack of degree but my concerns could be put to rest if the candidate came in with really strong experience, strong references and good chemistry with the interviewing team. I imagine recruiters might consider a degree a requirement, so make sure you network and reach out for informational interviews with folks who might have tangential connections with to get referrals and your foot in the door
Appreciate the info!
@OP, I’d make your foundational talking points about your work and what you’ve accomplished, etc. Many people work at big agencies and get promotions; im more interested in individual experience, etc, and how that might benefit my team. does that help?
