AlixPartners I am expecting an offer for VP in financial crime/compliance and risk. I need to give them my compensation expectation. Currently working in Bank with 7+ YOE including 6 yrs in Big4 non-MBA (Masters in Finance). What is the total comp (base+bonus) that I can ask for? What is the general sign on bonus? Thanks in advance

McKinsey & Company Hey folks!
Was wondering what sort of life sciences projects does usually the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company take on?
Commercial, access and pricing, M&A, transformation, implementation? (all of them perhaps?)
Basically, what would someone with an LS background be mainly working on in these firms on a day-to-day basis?
Thanks!

Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Amex skimps. Try Accenture or an analytics boutique and you could probably hit ~140-160k
Varies across different projects, just like any large consulting firm. Better than Big4 though
Reasons I want to work for Amex:
- Rated as top 10 company to work for
- Role fit - mostly sql and tableau with a few direct reports. Fully expect to do very well
- Wlb - would like to start a family in the next couple years (although wlb @ cruise line is very good too)
- Manager title - never held this title on resume, so opportunity to crack into other leaderships roles
Lack of career growth options @ cruise line where it feels like I'm stagnant. No opportunity for a Manager title with direct reports
- Opportunity to switch fields out of a 100% discretionary income driven industry (cruise lines), although Amex does have some dependency on hospitality, there's diversification (i.e. hotels, airlines etc)
Based on the $108k, and my expenses, I would have positive cash flow on a monthly basis, so would be able to keep food on the table & pay bills. My concern is if I start at $108k, and with merit raises of 3-5%, it could take 4 years to be at the same base salary (although overall comp will be higher with bonus). Additionally, even if I'm promoted in the organization and find other roles, will I be pegged to that $108k salary?
Would you make the move if it shows career progression on paper but monthly salary is backwards? Salary isn't everything, but it's a huge motivator for me.
Nope
108 is low to me, especially after 7-8 years of work experience. Also in what exact ways this opportunity would be a stepping stone for other leadership opportunities?
They also pitch internal mobility as a selling point where managers throughout the organization are focused on developing their people to prepare for future roles.
Hopefully this is the case as I see the company as a place where I'd like to stay for the long-term.
