I haven't had time lately to indulge in any passion projects. When I did have time, I'd just set time aside for them, and just do what I could to stay focused and on track. At times it does feel like work, since it is, even if it's work you're choosing to do. The gratification of doing it makes it seem more like play than work, if that makes any sense.
I agree, it shouldn’t feel like work definitely when you’re doing them
I try to keep my side project obligations to a minimum. When I feel like I HAVE to do things, I lose interest. But when I do it on my own terms, it maintains the creative excitement. A lot of my passion projects end up being solo endeavors for this reason.
I agree with this, sometimes its tough to keep them up
Aside from having no idea what I'd do, this is a big part of the reason I don't have a side project. I'm just too tired from work and life to want to fire up the laptop once I get home. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it, but for now, I'm content just working one job.
I feel the same! Sometimes work and life is just too exhausting as it is!
I have several things I am working on, on the side. But they are all things that really rejuvinate me and make me feel good. If it starts draining me. I abandon ship quickly.
I stay interested in my creative side projects by placing easter eggs. I do this at work too. When I'm doing an architectural rendering, i'll place fish under water or birds in the sky. No one can see them, but I know they're there. In my paintings, I play around in the underpainting, doing funny figures before covering with the good stuff. In my 3D animations, I do so much patchwork it turns into the gag. You have to make it fun for yourself! That's what works for me.
