I do not think it’s normal. I’ve been an attorney for 35 years, both a sole practitioner and in several law firms. I have many colleagues who are sole practitioners and many colleagues in small firms-I have not seen or heard of any law firms requiring employees to punch in and out, with the exception of one relatively large firm-and that firm requires even salaried employees to clock in and out.
I don’t think it’s normally practiced. I have never seen it having worked in about 5 small offices in my life.
Only worked in big firms but all hourly employees (like legal assistants) had to clock in and out.
