I once checked into my hotel where they had somehow run out of rooms, so they moved me to the Ritz next door and to compensate me for the terrible inconvenience they gave me 50k points. I didn't ask for anything (obviously), and when they offered I absolutely didn't question it.
Update: 11:25pm CT.
Just after my last post, the elevator dropped to the lower lobby, and then shook a bit. Suddenly, this cool cucumber was starting to sweat a little bit, and not just from the heat! It was certainly not a free fall, but we've all spent enough time in elevator to develop an acute sense of when something is even slightly off.
Anyhow, with reception spotty to begin with, I lost all signal. Thats when I though..hey, maybe this isn't so fun!.
However, that didn't rob me of my irony, so the clear next move was to play Love in an Elevator by Aerosmith.
I was in the LL level for another 20 minutes or so before the elevator engaged, and went back up to the lobby. I expected to be let out, but nope! Luckily I had a signal again, and so I called the hotel to see what was up, what was happening, etc etc. As I was expressing my irritation, the doors opened.
Staff was there, and I went with the "controlled rage" approach. I made it clear that I was not upset about the elevator breaking down, but their non existant customer service, their clear lack of procedure or coordination with the central technician service (the elevator call buttons typically go to a 3rd party). I wanted to speak to the supervisor.
She came out and asked me to come to the desk, as she would like to comp the room. I responded that comping the room was a baseline expectation. And then set up a call to discuss the issue further later this week. (I've got a super short stay, an all day conference tomorrow and a deck to finish!).
Anyhow, back in the room now. I'll update this thread after meeting with the folks here. Cheers!
I love this. This is like a recipe for making Lemonade from lemons. Good on you!

Seeing these ‘how many points can I get’ posts take me to the golden pre covid era where we wanted to just squeeze money out of our travel at every opportunity we got.

Ah take me back to the good old days

How many YOE?
IBM1- it kinda does factor in. A CEO trapped in an elevator is going to cost Marriott more than a first year analyst.
100 per minute if the elevator is stuck. But 1,000,000 per second if it's falling.

Number of minutes stuck * 1000

Settle for nothing less than lifetime platinum status.
Minimum 100k and lifetime platinum
And get it!
Omg, are you okay? Take deep breaths. And to answer your question, I’d assume a few thousand. But keep us posted, I’m curious now.
I'd go for 10,000
Current status: 10:45 pm Ct...still no word from hotel staff
At 10:30pm, I got back to my hotel after a team dinner, and a pleasant ride home on a Lyft scooter. I get in the elevator to go up to my floor, door closes. After a few, I realize we haven't moved. But, the door buttons are unresponsive. I call the emergency line, who says they have called the hotel, and will have someone come meet me, as they send for a technician.

Have you tried prying the doors open? Usually faster than waiting

Are you sure you aren’t just really high?
That was a thought lol.
This is the time to be either live tweeting updates or live streaming on Instagram. Please don't miss out on this golden opportunity.
Unfortunately I missed the suggestions for live tweeting etc. when I lost service.
But, here is the aftermath. Bonus points if you can name the hotel.
Were u stuck alone?
No. I have my weed pen. Unfortunately the joint I bought at the dispensary is in my hotel room.
OP we need updates!!
Call 911. They have the key to open the doors.
What’s Bonvoy point worth? I’d say at least one night’s worth of points
