This should have been discussed and negotiated at the start. I think the uncertainty that typically comes with startups may be the reason why the founder is pushing back. If I were you, I would focus on building your skills and getting involved in a whole range of tasks and build your experience so that you can use it elsewhere when the time comes. i personally think 8 months is still early I could be wrong. You are gaining incredible skills that I would not overlook if I were you. Getting clients for the business isn’t something to sniff at and I wouldn’t downplay it like you have done in this post because that is a huge deal, it’s the same skill that you would use for one client or 100 clients. Flip it around and use this time to get involve in a lot of things and build your skill. I am sure once revenue is consistent and the company has a stable client base then you can revisit it again. If you do and it’s still unclear, then you have gained value skills that you can apply elsewhere. One small advise - discuss these matters upfront and have it written in your contract. Good luck!
