Has your manager always been this way or is it recent?
If always, that’s probably just who they are.
If it’s recent, then someone probably got caught being dumb. Or they were told they need to let a few people go, and they’re on a witch hunt lol. OR they want everyone back in the office and are trying to find evidence of people screwing around to make the RTO order seem legit.
There are ways you can work with them to minimize the constant check-ins. Hitting your goals is one thing but communication is key with micromanagers.
Work with them to set a regular cadence for communicating status whether it be a daily standup to start the day and/or end of day email indicating accomplishments, blockers and upcoming tasks to be completed etc.
Keeping things more predictable with a micromanager can help with both your sanity and productivity with less surprise meetings as well as giving them the satisfaction of knowing how things are going and what to expect next.
As your manager gets more comfortable, you can then work with them to see if the check-in period can be less frequent.
