So I recently went from consulting to a software company. Still I’m a consultant role, client facing but I’m actually on a permanent team here. Team in the sense that we all do the same things for different clients but not like work together.

I’m finding that I hate the concept of being on a team. The forced bonding, the unnecessary weekly calls, one on ones with my manager. I miss being a SC and just knowing we were all there to do a project and likely parting ways after. Can anyone relate?

Recently, a month back I made a switch to a product based company/startup. For a month, I was getting to know their one of the product having tech stack as Java & Aws. Now after a month, I am being put in a new product completely based on golang & temporal.

My total exp is 3.8 years, since I have already spent 3.8 of my life in Java stack, would that be good for me if I make a switch to some other language or tech stack? I see, there are very few position for go.

Anyone else find that most companies hiring a PM, don’t actually know what a PM’s role/responsibilities are?

My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. I am naturally not a very out going person, was never 'cool' and I struggle to speak in group situations / make engaging conversation with higher ups. A friend of mine from a top tier consulting firm was counseled out. Do you consider it ethical that his career counselor is intentially spreading the information to his colleagues and to other consultants from other companies in the project? What can he do about it? Specially that he considers the potential layoff is purely based on the current situation (chargeability was low) and not on his performance (they said that his contribution to BD during his bench time was low)?
