Where did you apply and how long was the interview process? 3rd year SM as well and this sounds ideal.
So I applied on USAJOBs, it did take a few months to hear back (2-3). Interview was interesting compared to my Big 4 where it was mostly behavioral. They asked a mix of technical and behavioral questions. People were very nice and professional. I was fortunate enough to hear back from the manager the next day and they told me they would recommend to HR and I would hear back from them with an offer!
IRS job is ramping off while working at the Firm provides great future opportunity and commensurate rewards. Don’t complain five years from now when peers who stayed are getting well rewarded.
Or retire from the IRS with that sweet pension and then work for a big 4 in tax controversy.
Status update: Received initial offer which was very low (Step 1), I provided them with my current salary and asked them to reconsider offer (given disparity) and relevant experience. The hiring manager is recommending me for Step 10 which is highest of range and I take much much less of a hit. Still need to go through the chain but feeling optimistic!
What grade would you come in as?
Look up the pay steps for your locality. If your current pay is higher than the step they will give you the offer for ask them to match it. They will increase the pay step.
So I usually filter Open to Public (Hiring Path) and then filter for Treasury under Department/Agency. IRS agent positions are not always there but I was checking Bi weekly and came across the one I applied for. If your just looking for accounting type jobs you can always filter for the 0500 series.
Also just take note that Fed employers like resumes structured a certain way or generally if you submit it can be a bust. USAJOBs provides some guidance on how to format and you can always google for examples etc.
If you are staff I think gs lvl 12 is more reasonable. If you can get the interview for gs lvl 13, yeah why not? But I think it is hard to get the interview first.
If you get the offer for a higher gs level you should take it. It’s competitive to get to the next gs level
What level did you interview for?
Tentative offer and formal offer
The IRS is fairly volatile right now, I'd be careful.
A lot of that political support had wanted since the pro publica leak.
You should’ve applied for lvl 14. One of my seniors went to irs LB&I as lvl 13.
Any tips on searching for jobs on the USAJOBS site? I found it a bit hard to search by location, open to outside of govt, and level. Left big 4 for a smaller firm in hopes of better hours and still feeling burnt out. Also a 3rd year SM.
What do you all think about a staff 2 (about to get promoted to senior) getting an offer for gs-12 (step 1)? or gs-13 (step 1)? As someone coming from B4, I’m hesitant to be working on the same lvl as a senior manager. I’m truly facing imposters syndrome.
If they have seen your credentials and experience and are offering you a 13 slot, I would take it tbh. I feel it takes a bit longer to at the Gs12-14 ranks in terms of upward mobility. Don’t short yourself I would shoot for the stars if your willing to put in the work!
They will evaluate your qualifications and determine if eligible. I would just apply
Also, has anybody been waiting to schedule their fingerprints/ID? Been waiting a while and hr keeps saying it’s delayed. I’ve already signed tentative offer
I haven’t received email to schedule yet and it’s been over 2 weeks. 😕
