What do you think is the acceptable cutoff time for when it’s no longer reasonable to expect an immediate response to email? I’ve been getting only a few hours of sleep for the past few days. Finally had a night where things seemed quiet and I fell asleep at like 8:45 pm! I woke up at around 6 am to a full inbox and I felt kind of stupid for missing 9 pm emails because that is a really early bedtime (but boy do I feel better this morning!).

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

What can a junior associate do about a mid-level that constantly asks questions about things they were cc’d on, sends dozens of piecemeal emails and is generally just super high strung and needs everything right away?? Big law literally saved my life. I was working for the government and being sued by creditors and in a deep, dark place. I wasn't even able to afford my Ube transfer application on my own. I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through.
